What's the story behind the Fighting Elves?

I know that one of Jayne's shirts bears the insignia of the fighting elves, but what's their story? I've never seen reference to them anywhere (unless it's a bit of trivia supplied directly by Joss that I haven't heard yet), and I wonder how we know this is what the design signifies. Does anyone have some insight?

MY theory is that it is some sort of sports team in their time and Jayne is wearing the shirts in support of his favorite team. Maybe they play that weird version of basketball our BDHs were playing in the cargo bay?

That would certainly make sense - at first I thought it was some kind of military thing, but it certainly looks much more like a sports logo!

I've spoken with the graphic designer who created Jayne's shirts and I assure you, he's not from F*x. He told me about other shirts, but didn't mention anything about this one. I'm not entirely convinced it says "Fighting Elves" cuz when I wear it to work, my co-workers (native Chinese speakers) look at me funny and weren't certain that my translation was accurate. I didn't press the issue. And now I'm rambling. But maybe I'll remember to email the ex-graphic designer and ask him about the shirt.

Sure does feel like it, don't it? Cheer up, take it one step at a time. We've already made it through January, and February is the shortest month of the year! So we're making it to September in giant strides. (Although I won't complain at all if world governments convene to re-arrange the order of months this year...)
