We can't have an honest discussion about anything until you at least admit that there are some real problems here and that they are not being addressed under our current leadership.

Who are you kidding about "honest discussion"? You want Trump as the solution to all problems. And that is what Trump is selling this month. He was selling that same idea since 2015 "Only I can fix it" and you bought that solution without thinking that it depends completely on Trump being a sterling character. There is a different way that doesn't depend on a Hero - Trump or Biden - being the only one who can fix it.

Unfortunately, the Republican voters don't understand any of the Democrats' solutions, don't want to understand, and their Congressmen want to repeal every Democratic solution. See the law called the "Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023".

You are still in denial that crime has become a real problem across every major Democrat ran city and that the leadership is doing nothing to combat it and is instead actively taking steps to make the problems worse.

Chicago used to be a beautiful spot that I went to on a regular basis with my dad and brothers as a kid and with my friends as I got older. You couldn't even pay me to go there now. And that's despite the fact that all of the museums that used to be free entry cost a fortune to go visit today.

What's the plan? When are these cities going to be fixed?

Democrats have had uncontested free reign over them for 20 years now and they just get worse every year.

Stoking fears of crime is an age-old American election tactic, but it only works with cowardly voters, which the US has a super-abundance of, the most in the world. https://time.com/5846321/nixon-trump-law-and-order-history/

When you vote for Trump, try to remember that the US is not a police state, where the Federal government enforces local laws such as, oh, murder, assault/battery, robbery, car theft, burglary, you name it, Trump can't fix it.

Since when did policing become a Federal responsibility? If the state and local government can't handle it, too bad for their citizens but changing the President will not fix local problems -- the Constitution was deliberately set up so that the Federal government cannot do what your state is supposed to do.

The ugly truth is that the Federal government can't do a damn thing about Chicago crime, except in very special cases such as counterfeiting, enforcing Prohibition (but that's history), the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing (more history), the Branch Davidian Church in Waco violated every law about owning machine guns (even more ancient history) or ranchers claiming Federal land as their private property and refusing to pay their rent for grazing in National Forests.

You're delusional dude.

There's video proof of it everywhere. Keep your head in the sand and keep voting for people who are going to make things worse then.

6ix, you have got local matters (crime rates in Chicago) all mixed up in your head with national matters. The local Republicans don't have any detailed plans to solve local matters beyond saying "Only I can fix it", but the National level Republicans do have a detailed plan for making the national government malfunction as much as they can. Here is the plan in the form of legislation.

Republicans finally announced their demands to stave off a default on our debt, and it’s brutal:

-Eliminate Pell grants for 80,000 students and reduce grant funding for millions of others

-Remove access to Head Start Programs and Child Care to 300,000 children

-Cut funding for 2,000 border agents, 11,000 FBI personnel, and hundreds of police

-Shut down 125 air traffic control towers (which would increase airport security wait times)

-Evict hundreds of thousands of families, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities from Section 8 housing

-Impose work requirements for social programs

-Block Biden’s student debt relief plan

-Repeal money for the IRS

-Remove Biden’s environmental protections, including nearly wiping out all of Biden’s clean tax credits

-Reduce access to veterans’ care + increase wait times for veterans receiving benefits

6ix, at least look at the table of contents for this bill. For each thing the Democrats are doing, there is an item to undo the thing in this bill.

Vote Republican if you do NOT want control of greenhouse gases!

EPA to propose first controls on greenhouse gases from power plants

President Biden’s administration is poised to announce limits on greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that could compel them to capture the pollution from their smokestacks, technology now used by fewer than 20 of the nation’s 3,400 coal and gas-fired plants, according to three people who were briefed on the rule.

If implemented, the proposed regulation would be the first time the federal government has restricted carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants, which generate about 25 percent of the planet-warming pollution produced by the United States. It would also apply to future plants.

Almost all coal and gas-fired power plants would have to cut or capture nearly all of their carbon dioxide emissions by 2040, according to the people familiar with the regulation, who asked not to be identified because the rule has not been made public.

The proposed rule is sure to face opposition from the fossil fuel industry, power plant operators and their allies in Congress. It is likely to draw an immediate legal challenge from a group of Republican attorneys general that has already sued the Biden administration to stop other climate policies. A future administration could also weaken the regulation.

It would not mandate the use of carbon capture equipment, a nascent and expensive technology; rather, it would set caps on pollution rates that plant operators would have to meet. They could do that by using a different technology or, in the case of gas plants, switching to a fuel source like green hydrogen, which does not emit carbon, according to the people familiar with the matter. But the regulation could lead to the broader adoption of carbon capture technology, the people said.

The proposal comes on the heels of two other Biden administration plans to cut tailpipe emissions dramatically by

1) speeding up the country’s transition to electric vehicles, and
https://web.archive.org/web/20230423165536/https://www.nytimes.com/202
3/04/13/climate/electric-vehicles-biden-epa.html

2) curb methane leaks from oil and gas wells.
https://web.archive.org/web/20230422232221/https://www.nytimes.com/202
1/11/02/climate/biden-methane-climate.html

If those three regulations are implemented as proposed, they would significantly reduce the planet-warming pollution created by the world’s largest economy. Together with the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, a law that is pouring $370 billion into clean energy programs, they would put the country on track to meet Mr. Biden’s pledge to cut the country’s emissions roughly in half by 2030, and to stop adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere by 2050.

Half of those cuts are good. Half of them are bad.

This is no different than any other time either party does anything.

Both parties suck.

There is a difference between the two political parties. Here is the ultimate and highest example I can prove: First, I am guessing that you didn't actually look at the Republican bill. Ten years into the future the bill says exactly how much can be spent:

‘‘(18) for fiscal year 2033, for the discretionary category, $1,608,788,000,000 in new budget authority;’’. That is from Page 8 out of 320 pages
https://www.speaker.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/LSGA_xml.pdf

Planning how much the US government will spend 10 years into the future is insanity and stupidity written into law. At this point, you are supposed to realize that the Federal government can't predict what will happen next year, but they are forced to try because it takes more than a year to pass a spending budget. Ten years ahead? Congress is being absurd and ridiculous trying to predict that far into the future. No Democrat will vote for such nonsense, but I expect every Republican to vote Yes.

That is the main difference between the two political parties. The Republican politicians think they know to the precision of the closest million dollars what is impossible to know.

The Republicans show the same absolute certainty about climate change as they do about budgets. There are Republicans absolutely certain that climate change is a hoax. There are Republicans absolutely certain that nothing can be done about climate change even if not a hoax. There are Republicans absolutely certain that switching away from fossil fuels can't be done or if done they are certain it can't be affordable. There are no such Democrats absolutely certain, maybe with the exception of Senator Manchin, who sells coal. Manchin fits well with the Republican party, the party for absolutely certain people only.

Yeah. Right. Democrats actively destroy the value of the dollar. Thanks for summing that up so nicely.

I assume that is a reference to inflation. You never have accepted the fact that inflation is going on all over the world, not just in the US, which means the Democrats aren't the cause of inflation.

And because this should be said every time the debt ceiling is mentioned, we really need to get rid of it. The time to argue about spending is when you buy stuff, not when the bills come due. Unless you're a deadbeat, you pay up if you've promised to, and you don't make your payment subject to random, changing demands. You said you'd pay. You pay. But if you are a Republican Congressman, you don't pay, i.e. you force the US Treasury to default on the national debt, or force a government shutdown.

Because the Republicans have done this many times before, there is a List of federal shutdowns at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_shutdowns_in_the_United_State
s#List_of_federal_shutdowns

There have also been funding gaps forced by anti-abortion advocates in Congress in order to ban using Medicaid dollars to pay for abortions. Some of those advocates used to be Democrats, but they switched to Republicans.
