Signe's pedanticness about the word belief is tiresome.

Signe may have a point about the word "liberal" and how it means different things to different people. I think of liberalism as an ideology whereas democrat is a political party. For instance I have some friends who are technically democrats and do vote democrat, but I wouldn't consider them "liberals". I'm basing my experience of what "liberal" signifies upon the fact that I live in Portland and the attitude I made slightly inaccurately simple, though not totally inaccurate is extremely common in the people around me. No one seemed to care that our mayor was kissing with his 17 year old intern and then rutted when the intern turned 18 and was still the intern. And lied about it and was found out after he took office. Plus he does dumb stuff as mayor. The sooner he goes the better, yucky.

I'm most bothered by the "intern" thing out of that. It's kinda of squicky when there's an age gap involved, but it also depends on the maturity of the girl in question and it only becomes my business if the relationship is exploitative. My squicking out does not necessarily signify right or wrong.

I deliberately chose not to mention the sex of the young person because I figured that people would come at me and say I was being discriminatory, or other hogwash, either way it isn't apropriate.

For decades IQs were climbing in the Western World. It was called the “Flynn effect.”

Average IQs were defined as 100 in each succeeding iteration of the IQ test, as by definition the average was normed to 100. But if you rescored earlier IQ tests based upon prior norms, the average IQ would have increased by about 15 points or one standard deviation.

In other words, if you took an IQ test in 1942 and scored 100, by today’s scoring you would have an IQ of 86.

That is, until the past 10 or so years. In the past 10 years, IQs have been dropping, and dropping pretty fast. And nobody is quite sure why. It is labeled the “Reverse Flynn Effect.”

There is lively debate about what exactly the Flynn effect and now the Reverse Flynn effect exactly mean. It could be something as simple as differences in education or education styles or something physical such as the effects of nutrition, as diets change over time. There could have been something that stimulated logic and reading abilities in the past and that no longer exists, or something else.

But the fact is that improvements in IQ over time are being erased.

There's one huge reason why that nobody is going to ever talk about, let alone admit.

Diversity and Inclusiveness.

You really think that they were giving the black kids from bad neighborhoods with the worst school districts IQ tests that were being counted on the books to compare to the rest of the world?

There's no doubt that technology, especially "smart" phones, is making everyone collectively dumber. No better time than that to start sneaking in a large demographic that was never tabulated in the total before.

I'm not saying that black people are stupid because they're black. I'm just saying that a vast majority of black people that have gone through the Public Educational System in America have an IQ under 100.

So when I wrote my first post I was reacting to the presence of GWBush-ites and Limbaugh dittoheads.

Since then, this board has revealed to me that "liberals" are just as narrow-minded, autocratic, intolerant and prejudiced as so-called right-wingers.

Oh, well!

Maybe prejudice causes low IQ, not the other way around?

Since social media is CONSTANTLY pitting us against some "outgroup" (women hate men, men hate women, Christians hate Muslims, blacks hate whites, Dems hate Repubs and vice versa) at its core this is highly prejudicial since we're treating people as categories with stereotyped characteristics. Once you start viewing the world as black and white and refuse to engage in thoughtful conversation.... well,of course your IQ is going to drop.

Also, way too much screen time.
