After CNN, Mass Layoffs Hit Vox, Buzzfeed Washington Post And Other US Media Giants: Report

https://www.outlookindia.com/business/-after-cnn-layoffs-mass-layoffs-
hit-vox-buzzfeed-washington-post-and-other-us-media-giants-report-news-255871

Vox Media layoffs have started. The media house has mentioned that it would let go of almost seven per cent of its staff. Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff has reportedly said that this 7 per cent of layoffs would impact close to 130 employees across departments, including the those in at the editorial front.

In addition to this, media reports suggest that Buzzfeed layoffs are also expected to impact around 12 per cent employees in the targeted sales, technology, production and content teams. These reports also add that apart from worsening economic condition, the CEO has said that these layoffs are also due to the changes in how people consume media.

Since US media giants have largely been impacted by layoffs, some more popular names are also facing the brunt. As per a CNN report, NBC News and MSNBC also laid off employees in double digits and most likely around 75 people. While the Washington Post did not confirm a definite number of employees to be laid off, some reports suggest that official updates are awaited.

Yahoo to lay off 20% of its staff as it cuts advertising tech business
Admitting defeat in the online advertising wars, the former search powerhouse is set to lay off 1,600 employees by the end of 2023.

ts-staff-as-it-cuts-advertising-tech-business.html

ahoo has laid off 1,000 workers, or about 12% of its remaining staff, in a move aimed at restructuring the company’s advertising technology business unit and reallocating its finances more efficiently.

The layoffs, enacted Thursday, mark the end of Yahoo’s attempts to be a direct competitor to Google and Meta in the digital advertising market, according to a report from Axios, which was the first outlet to publicize the job cuts.

A further 600 employees will be let go in the second half of the year, bringing the total to about 20% of Yahoo’s total staff. The layoffs represent a downsizing of roughly 50% of the company’s ad tech division, Axios reported.
