Hi guys

Ahhh, the support you give all of us is wonderfully overwhelming sometimes! Thanks so much for everything you had to say. Fortunately, we don't run into too many negative reviews about the series (and about the movie--- it's amazing, but there's already reviews floating around on "Serenity", even though we're not even close to our release date!)... We've been lucky enough to be praised more than the other thing, which is awesome.

Orson's review, overall, was a great one, and I do agree with you that the more positive buzz created about us before the film's release, the better. I was just the only one singled out as even a slightly negative thing, and I appreciated "Ravenu"'s defense of the character, that's all.

Actors know better than to take any review too personally. I know I've been reviewed a fair bit before, and the negative reviews usually cause me to burst out laughing more than anything else. I'm well aware I can't please everyone, trust me. But Kaylee is a character I can't help but defend, and I guess it's always going to be that way. I'm grateful for any positive reviews steered our way, though. We all LOVE your comments about the film, from those of you that were able to make those early screenings. It's incredibly inspiring to know that you're on this journey with us.

On another note, I thought I should mention a convention called I-Con, which is the weekend of April 8th-10th in Stoneybrook, New York. I hope to see some of you East coast browncoats there...

I just think that OSC missed the deeper levels to Kaylee that were, to me, pretty obvious. The scene where she holds up the broken engine part to the captain, defeated... that wasn't an idiotically smiling person.

Kaylee has heart, sauciness, sly humor, big sisterly concern, and kick-ass action (sort of). I know which Serenity crewmember I'd be hanging around.

I love OSC's works, like maybe half of his politics, totally disagree with the other half, and hang out a lot on his forum. Big Firefly fanbase there, by the way...

Dammit ... closed the window before I actually posted. Now I'll have to retype this.

Anyways, I don't think Card failed to "get" Kaylee's character, or he would have said so as his token "It wasn't beyond perfect" negativity. Hopefully, when the movie's ready, they'll get him to see it and write an excellent review. Than they can quote him on the newspaper ads. Because it's always tragically funny to see bad movies with one or two wimpy blurbs, or none at all.

This was due to an error on the website last night (we had a slight rollback that removed Jewel's information from the main page, and when the information was readded, the code was cut and paste and not properly updated). It was fixed shortly after this post was made, I believe.

I actually found this site because I was looking around for information on "Serenity" and stumbled across the site (it's going to seem overly convenient when you read my sig, but it's the truth). I love the show, and I'm ambivalent about the fact that I never saw it on TV - I didn't get the chance to support it as a fan, but I got to watch the entire series as Joss envisioned it.

I've been looking at the statistics for the I-CON website - Jewel has drawn a lot of attention in the time since we got her information up on her site(sometime yesterday morning), as a fan of the show I'd love to see more attention go that way. One of the reasons the convention staff thought that Jewel would be a good guest is because of you - the fans - and all the support you've given since day 1. I'd personally like to see more Firefly/Serenity guests in the future, but that would require support from the fandom in coming to the convention and proving to the coordinators that you have a strong voice and want to see this sort of thing happen (Won't take much convincing for me, but I'm not in charge of these kinds of decisions).

I invite everyone here to visit the website, take a look around and, hopefully, come down to the convention and see what it has to offer. If people on these boards, or the coordinators of fireflyfans.net, would like to come down to the con and have some sort of place to meet, I'm sure we could arrange a "fan-meet" of sorts. If you're interested, talk it out amongst yourselves and then drop me an email and let me know that it's something you want to pursue. If Jewel would be willing to attend that meeting, I'm sure it would make it all the more wonderful, but that's a decision I would never think to make on her behalf, and I have no idea how busy she will be over the course of the weekend.

I want to thank you all for your dedication to the show, and to Science Fiction. It's fans like you that enable I-CON to do what it does.

I have a confession to make, a few months back I sent an email through OSC's website ( www.hatrack.com), asking if he would give a review of Firefly. Whether he did it because of that I don't know, but it has been nearly 3 years since it was on TV so who knows.

I have always been a fan of his books and he can write a very good review. If you have a look on this site, you will see he can slag a lot of things off, and when he does like something most don't get the great write up that Firefly did. As to his review of Jewel Staite's 'Kaylee', the man is now knocking on in years so maybe a smile from Jewel just wasn't enough to float his boat, it certainly did the trick for me, I liked Kaylee right from the start.

David, thanks for fixing the error so quickly. It is great to see a Con that is fast in fixing any problems they may have on their site. Some Cons would do well to emulate your dedication to your site and its content.

Glad you found our little corner of the 'verse whatever the reason. We are a faithful and stalwart bunch of Browncoats, but there are other sites out there too.

Good to hear you are a fan. New fans, or new to us anyway, seem to be turning up everyday. A fan who helps organize a Con is a boon to the community indeed.

I am not surprised that the addition of Jewel as a guest will increase interest in I-Con. The ranks of the Firefly (now Serenity) fandom are growing every day. The DVD set, Cons like yours, and message board participation like Jewel's just feed the fire for the loyal masses.

We love Jewel and I have no doubt there will be a significant Browncoat presence at I-Con. I will do my part to spread the word.

Wow, I don't think he got Jewel's character at all - I thought it was all about her being light and Ms Sunshine, not a smiling idiot. The person who almost on her own had to balance out the darkness that the other characters put forward. I always thought if anything she was the most under-rated character on the show for her ability to keep the humanity flowing in the show. More so than any other character you felt what she felt when she felt it. She was ultra-real in that sence and unlike other characters throughout TV and movie history who are as smart as she was in keeping that ship running, most other characters in the past always had a chip on their shoulder or a jadedness to their character, as if you couldn't be happy at doing your job even in less than hospitable conditions. She still saw the best in people and that is a rare trait in any character and an event rarer trait when you can find someone who could pull that off as believiblely as Jewel did. Are we that jaded as a society that when we see a character as happy and innocent as Kaylee in such a dark story that we automatically sneer at the character and dismiss it as stupid, other than perhaps realizing that she is the embodiment of the innoncence lost by the other characters, and I think Jewel did a brilliant job of pulling it off and keeping Kaylee real and human and perhaps reminding some of us what we may have forsaken, that's the harder job is to be happy in an unhappy situtation cause you are at least still there. Just my 2 cents I guess.

Hear, hear. I thought I was the only one who;d noticed (and disagreed) with the guy's description. "Smiling idiotically," indeed.

Very cool. I read the message boards almost daily, but have never posted. We have a huge dvd collection, and saw Firefly, but didn't buy it. Went back the next day to take the gamble, as we'd never seen any of it, but they were all gone. We spent the next 2 mo trying to find, and were really pleased when we finally did. Anyway, my reason for posting is that I found a small blurb on Josh and the BDM, that I thought you might like, on Sci-fi.com. Rumor has it that Josh may be directing a "Wonder Woman" movie, but even on that rumor, Serenity got a mention.

Whedon To Helm 'Wonder Woman'?

Ain't It Cool News reported a rumor that Joss Whedon, creator of TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is in talks to write and direct a new Wonder Woman movie.Citing an anonymous source, the site reported that Whedon is in final talks with producer Joel Silver and Warner Brothers to adapt the classic DC Comics superheroine for the big screen for a summer 2006 release. The site reported that an announcement was imminent.

The site added that the only obstacle is X-Men 3, which earlier rumors said Whedon was in talks to direct. (Whedon himself has denied that he has ever been approached to helm the third film in the Marvel Comics franchise.) Whedon, an avowed comic-book fan, is currently writing a series of X-Men comics for Marvel.

Whedon is currently finishing up Serenity, the movie version of his canceled Fox TV series Firefly, for Universal Pictures. Serenity is slated for release Sept. 30, 2005. Universal is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.

Ok, so from never posted to 2 in 1 day. I have to add my vote. I think Kaylee rocks. She's my favorite, because in spite of everything that happens, and all that the 'verse has thrown at her, she stays positive, making the world around her a little better just by being there.
