A decade of quiet preparations helped Ukraine turn the tables on Russia's bigger, better-armed military, experts say

Following Russia's 2014 attack, Ukraine's military set out to improve and modernize its forces.
Kyiv's decisions during that period helped it hold off Moscow's assault in late February 2022.
When Russia annexed Crimea and stoked a conflict in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region in 2014, Ukraine's military was in poor condition, with only 6,000 combat-ready troops out of a 140,000-strong force.

In the years that followed, Ukraine's military underwent a period of preparation that helped it blunt the full-scale invasion that Russia launched in February 2022.

According to a report by the Royal United Services Institute assessing the first five months of the war, decisions made by Kyiv during those years modernized its hardware and enabled its troops to hold off Russia's assault.

No it didn't. $100 Billion+ of US Dollars in a year being laundered through Ukraine and a bunch of free shit from everyone else did.

And even that's arguable. There's no evidence that Ukraine is actually doing shit with that money.

You are a thoroughly propagandized non-person. You are a pet.

Ukraine lost 20pct of its territory, about 120,000 dead, 35,000 MIA and presumed dead, and its entire initial stock of armored vehicles, weapons, and ammo.

That's why it needed to be resupplied from the west with both Soviet-era equipment and western equipment. Well, that was destroyed too. You don't hear much about Javelin antitank weapons, switchblade drones, M777s or HIMARS anymore, do you?

So now Ukraine is going to get a hodgepodge of tanks and armored vehicles from Europe, Britain, and the USA which, apparently, even Zelenskiy thinks is inadequate bc now he's asking for F16s and long-range missiles (ATACMS).

Olaf Scholz (German Chancellor) is traveling around South America asking them to check under their couch cushions and turn their pockets inside out looking for Soviet-era ammo. With no success.

Kiev is about to lose Bakhmut and all of their troops fighting there.

That's what you call "turning the tide"?

The German chancellor has ruled out sending fighter jets to Ukraine, just days after committing to supplying tanks.

In the Tagesspiegel interview, Mr Scholz reiterated that Nato was not at war with Russia, "we will not allow such an escalation," he said.

Good.

FUCK YOU, ZELENSKY.

AMERICANS IN NO WAY SUPPORT UKRAINE.

Nope comrade, I call that bullshit. Bakhmut stand of fall, is little more than a Russian graveyard.

Ukraine Making Crimea 'Untenable' for Russian Forces—Retired Lt. General

Reported Ukrainian strikes on a railway bridge near a city considered a gateway to Crimea signal a push by Kyiv to make the peninsula Moscow seized "untenable," a former U.S. general has said.

The Twitter account NOELreports, which provides updates on the war in Ukraine, tweeted how Kyiv's forces had destroyed a bridge near Melitopol on Sunday which was one of the main supply routes for Russian forces.

The bridge was reportedly attacked by U.S.-supplied HIMARS when a convoy of Russian vehicles had passed through.

Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, former commander general of U.S. Army Europe shared the tweet, adding in the message that the move was "part of disrupting the 'land bridge' and isolating Crimea, which Russia seized in 2014.

"This is a step towards the employment of long-range precision fires which will make Crimea untenable for Russian forces," he added.

Officials say Russian troops killed, wounded in Ukraine approaching 200K: report

The rising number of casualties is driven in part by heavy fighting in Bakhmut and Soledar in eastern Ukraine, where Russia is increasingly sending poorly trained recruits and convicts to the front lines in an effort to deplete Ukrainian artillery, according to the Times.

However, officials have warned that the casualty numbers — which are based on satellite imagery, intercepted communications, social media, on-the-ground reporting and official government numbers — are difficult to estimate and imprecise.
