This is an apology -

Angus/Andrew - please accept my deepest apology. I did send a message to Haken about this thread and have felt horrible about it ever since. It was an ignorant, judgemental thing to do and I hope you'll be able to forgive me.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion. The fact that I don't agree with it - or with how you choose to express it - is my problem, not yours.

However, few fans like to be called sheep - no matter the genre. Especially fans who have done so much to help keep alive the kind of quality work that was and is Firefly. Writing in the vernacular of the show, doing silly things like pouring virtual fresh wine, and participating in role playing are only a few ways we try to show our support. However, any one of us reading the headline like "Sheep baaaaaaah, baaah, bah" was coming in ready to bite. I'm here to admit I was one of them.

And the lowercase "e" for the English - I'm deeply regretful of that too. It was a horrible bit of sarcasm. One drawback of the boards is that sarcasm doesn't come across very easily. It's an acquired skill. My mother still talks about her Scottish family (lowland Fergusons from south of Glasgow), so for me the history is still very vibrant. I'm even the Region IX Vice President of the Clan Ferguson Society of America - can you believe there are such things? Being the descendant of a far-flung culture does strange things to the brain sometimes.

fox network has been called the serial killer of quality television, and I've seen very little of late to change the status quo. It's true, they aren't very courageous - at all. This isn't the first time they've tortured quality TV and science fiction in particular - sports has ALWAYS come first, as evidenced by the one and only season of Space: Above and Beyond (not exactly quality, but not given a chance to be, was it?).

If you reject my apology, I'll accept that and move on. But by all means PLEASE KEEP POSTING. We need fans like you - the kind that stir things up and remind us why we're here, but also that this is not the real world. Heaven forbid.

Frivolous bit of trivia: I was born in the Year of the Sheep, according to the Chinese Zodiac. I actually had no reason to get offended in the first place.

I'm sorry, but why exactly do we need people like Angus on the boards? She/He began an insulting thread that called Firefly fans sheep, and unkindly teased them for their use of the venacular, their devotion to Whedon and possible costumes, and other fandom tendancies. These things may come off as a mite outlandish, but they are valid expressions of devotion and this forum is the last place where I would expect to see them judged.
Bottom line, it was RUDE to say those things and then casually assert that it was all in good fun. The current culture is hard eonough on devotees of anything, when only disinterest is considered cool, we fans need a safe place to let our inner geek out.
Bad form, Angus.

He's since changed his ways and everyone is entitled to an opinion. He's also been advised that fans don't like being called sheep. To my knowledge, he hasn't done it since.

I honestly think he didn't realize what he was saying. He's not as deep into the fandom as the rest of us - he was only trying to understand. Sometimes step one is to flat out say, "Start by not calling us sheep."

Sorry, my first time posting here and got a little confused...
This was about Angus (can I call you Angus?)'s being called heretic by an english teacher

XDDD

Now you can say you've been accused of heregy twice. ^_^

Not being mean, sorry. I do think Shakespeare is one of the biggest authors in the history. Not only for what he wrote, but for how it sounds, words in his plays play around and got their own meaning... I mean, I'm not even an english speaker (as you'd guess for my writing XP) and I do love reading/watching his stories in english.

Yet opinion are like asses, every body have one.

Take me back to the black, tell 'em I ain't coming back.

And this was about someone saying that people should not post a thread just to get a quarrell started,

Well, I'm killing time reading how this develops... It's fun.

Sorry, my first time posting here and got a little confused...
This is about an explanation someone (I don0t know who >_<) wrote about why the show was cancelled

God! What were they intending? To kill the show?

It annoys me to no end, I mean if people hadn't liked it... Ok, it's bad, yet it's okay... But the whole series killed just because the Fox guys are [intro colorfuly chiness expression refering to a camel, a turtoise having wild sex in Fox people's elders graves]...

Well, it's not fair.

Take me back to the black, tell 'em I ain't coming back.

And finnally, this was about what was funnier, Titus Andronics or the Magna Carta

The Magna Carta.

Really, try to read it absolutly drunk...

------------------------

Ok... here comes when people yells at me because I hadn't used the 'edit' link but posted four or five message one after the other... and hence for my shame, I've not even quoted... this should go to the list of 'Not to do un a forum'.
*Shame face*

The truth is that I just read the thread from the beggining... well, most of it, and I loved it... really, is just an example of how discussion that began wrong should develop.

On what it was being said:
I disagree with AngusThermopyle and the whole Sheep Baahbaaah thing (yet I found the title very funny), you can obses over a series and post messages roleplaying whoever you want and still be centered and know the difference between reality and fiction.
And saying Sheep was not nice of you.
I hate being called a sheep because it means people is telling me, or someone, that I have no self opinion or sensible thoughts...
(You should have called us ships, everybody would have liked that).
And as I said in one of the infamous previous messages, I disagree too with the whole Shakespeare stuff (^_^ you [insert chinesse for heretic]).
On the other hand, there's little to say about people that answer threads they find ofending by simply insulting the one who posted it. It's not a matter of what a board needs or does not needs, it's a matter that opinions are free and there's lots and lots of them. It's called diversity, and the basis of that democracy we all love so much.

And about learning chinesse... well, I'm still learning english (as a blind duck would have guessed over the english slaughter I've wrote above) but I must say that cursing in chinesse must be fun.
Costumer: Excuse me, senyoreta, what are you? Stupid? It's not my fault I dropped the movile phone so I demand...
Me: You Ching-wah tsao duh liou mahng!...
Costumer: I beg your pardon?
Me: Nothing, just a sneeze... how can I help you then?

And Channain, I think that apologize was rather brave (I'm stubborn as hell and I usually find it hard to apologize over anything >_<).
