Black America's ancestors are turning over in their graves.
A California task force to 'study and develop reparations' is nothing short of a boondoggle.
A 500-page mess of social engineering, vague definitions, and impossible spending, not designed to address the important issue of racial wealth disparity, but to use handouts to hide the progressive left's true cynical objective – power and control.
At its core, this proposal views black people as infantilized, uneducated victims, who most certainly can't be trusted with the tools to improve their own lives.
It is an insult. A mirage. A distraction.
First, the black community cannot even agree on the fundamental question of who should receive reparations.
I'm a California resident and tuned into the task force's last meeting, which was marred by accusations of bias, discrimination and corruption.
Some advocated for anyone of black racial heritage — including immigrants and their descendants — to receive compensation, while others argued that only black American descendants of slaves should be eligible.
In the end, the committee determined that black residents who are descendants of either black slaves or 'free Black person[s] living in the United States prior to the end of the 19th century' would qualify.
This superficial progress was hailed as a victory, but scratch below the surface and it's clear that they've done little to advance the impossible dream of true racial reparations.
In fact, they may have set it back further.
Once upon a time, freed American slaves were promised 40 acres and a mule as compensation for their pain.
Freed slaves, for the most part, found the offer acceptable. The reason for this is simple – the only way to escape poverty is to accumulate wealth. Not cash. Wealth. And wealth requires ownership.
Understanding this, our ancestors from the era of slavery were content with the opportunity to work for their own families in pursuit of their own future, rather than continued forced servitude for the benefit of whites.
40 acres and a mule is what they were promised, but not what they received. The rest is history.
But now we see that the original promise of black American ownership has also been lost, replaced by the reparations task force's horrifying labyrinth of Black Lives Matters-inspired government committees, oversight, and social justice programs.
This committee is supposed to be the model for reparations across the country?
What a joke.
Their report focused on comparatively irrelevant issues like climate racism, discrimination in entertainment, and domestic violence caused by alleged white supremacy.
Rather than focusing on the legacy of slavery and segregation, the committee dedicated absurd amounts of attention to the health of black LGTBQ Americans.
More than 400 pages into the document, we're told black transgender 'women' are 'less likely to access healthcare' because of the 'legacy of enslavement.' Or that black LGBTQ Americans have also been found to have higher rates of diabetes, asthma, heart attacks, and cancer

That $109 billion in profits includes money paid back by bailed-out companies as well as revenue from dividends, loan interest, warrants, and other proceeds.
There is different estimate at MIT, but the entire academic calculation is trying to convince you that the government (if it had, instead, invested the bailout money on the stock market or for-profit loans or bonds) would have made a far bigger profit than $109 billion and, therefore, the Bailout must have lost money. That conclusion rests on many uncertain assumptions, and the estimates presented here, individually and collectively, should be viewed as having wide error bands. (No kidding. The error bands are so wide that a real profit is turned into a theoretical loss.)
Three possible approaches to cost measurement are evaluated here through the lens of a simplified Arrow-Debreu state pricing framework. The Arrow-Debreu approach clearly shows why some approaches make sense and others do not, and why different approaches lead to widely divergent cost estimates.
The third approach simply adds together all realized cash flows between the government and the bailed out entity, positive and negative. This is referred to as ex post cash accounting. (In the venture capital context this is referred to as cash-in cash-out.) This approach is not theoretically justifiable for several reasons. It neglects time value and risk adjustment, and ignores the possibility that the outcome could have been different than what transpires. Nevertheless, it is most frequently how costs are calculated in popular accounts and government reports, as well as in some analyses by academics.
The press typically reports bailout costs on an ex post cash basis despite the problems with that approach. For example, ProPublica, a highly regarded non-partisan news organization, created a “Bailout Tracker” that has been keeping a running tally of government asset purchases and cash receipts under TARP and from the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In their most recent update dated September 27, 2018, they report a total net government “profit” of $97 billion. Policymakers also tend to cite ex post cash results.

California can't afford this. The current state budget is $308 billion and facing a $25 billion deficit.

Yeah. Their little conference seems to me to be like when I was a kid and my uncle bought a lotto ticket for me and I made all the plans of what I was going to do with the money when I won. I'm sure they feel at least as entitled to that money as I did when I was 7 years old.
The only difference is, I didn't go around and burn down neighborhoods when I didn't win.
Reparations is never going to happen. Idiot Newsom just lit up a powder keg by putting a figure on it.
Most blacks in California either don't want that "free" money and know that it's not free and/or know that it's not going to happen in the first place.
But some of them are already counting it and making plans for it.
Have fun, California... Waiting on those cops you shit on for a year to show up at your door to save you when the looting begins after they get the bad news.

Politicians always offer shit they never intend to pay before an election (See Also: Biden's pre-mid-term college loan forgiveness grift)
We just had an election, Gavin. People's memory last about 2 weeks on average. A month after the fallout from this happens they won't even remember any of it anymore.

For example, in 1940, the year Social Security payments for seniors began, the Social Security Board identified nearly 2.3 million Black workers as eligible for old age insurance, but the majority of those identified were disqualified because they were farm or domestic workers. These exclusions continued until 1954, when the occupational exclusions were eliminated.
