Yeah... well when I say I'm "making a lot of progress" on this project it's really like spraying a garden hose into the ocean.

Fortunately for me, I still have some relationships with some REAL "computer people" that I developed a long time ago, and with a little collaboration with them I've been able to make a lot more progress on one specific new thing I've been doing. I won't go into details in these forums other than to say that it's a long time archival and preservation effort that I spearheaded back in the mid-aughts and has since grown a lot larger than me.

I was always the "brute force" guy who was able to surround himself with smarter people to get some amazing things done.

Most of what I've been doing with this on the side is nothing more than redundancy, documentation and cataloging of behind the scenes stuff that everybody else just assume works and doesn't bother verifying. In this most recent endeavor so far, covering roughly 3,000 "things", I've already discovered 2 "things" that weren't right. At the end of the day, it doesn't really effect much, but you know what a perfectionist I am, and once I'm done those two things and maybe a few by the time this part is finished, everything related to it will work behind the scenes and issues won't accidentally pop up on anybody down the road, but otherwise nobody will ever notice anything was done.

We've all learned quite a few other things that we didn't know during this process. Most all of it completely trivial in the scheme of things, but I like having definitive answers for behavior that aren't based off of assumptions.

I've got to find me a good default. I have a potential 'puter projects if my own: finish organizing and archiving my digital photos. It would be better than playing solitaire, wouldn't it?
:smile;

Sure it would... If you can handle the tedium and not lose yourself in it.

You've got a family at home that wouldn't let you do that, so you're probably safe.

I've got too much Real World stuff to do now myself. Not just the things that NEED to be done, but also the stuff I just enjoy doing... especially now that I have a lot of tools to do the stuff correctly.

Also, since I've reestablished friend and family relationships and it's become important to me to maintain them (when it wasn't back when I lost myself in this project), I can't imagine that I would ever do that again. I had nearly a solid week straight where I let my sleep schedule get out of wack just recently, but when I needed to step away from it for the RL stuff it wasn't a problem to revert right back to "normal".

I never watched Futurama but if that video clip is representative maybe I should have.

It is cold and we are under temp for this time of year. My area of BC should be sitting at 7C.

Futurama is SO good. You should, you should.

That's one of my favorite quotes ever, and it's from one of my favorite episodes.

Season 3, Episode 20: Godfellas

Here's a longer scene from that episode. Makes me giggle.

What I've noticed that's strange is that for the next month accuweather is predicting that we're going to be trending lower for the highs during the day, but we're also going to be trending higher for the lows at night. It doesn't look like a one-off thing either. That's their prediction nearly every day for the next 30 days.

It's 21 degrees here right now, and my heat isn't going off much. It's amazing how much less energy you burn up when you drop the thermostat around 7 degrees.

But if I'm not bundled up you sure notice the difference in temp from the time right before the thermostat kicks the furnace on to right after it cycles off and raises that temp about 5 degrees.

Fortunately, one of my 6 vents is in the bathroom and when I'm going to take a shower I can just close that door for a while and it's way hotter in there than the rest of the house for shower time.

Hope we didn't hurt Jaynez' feelings yesterday about the out-of-hand necroposting Sigs.

I agreed with you on it the first time and decided that the annoying factor wasn't as big of a con as bringing up old posts and updating them with current events was. But it was getting a little crazy in the last few weeks there, wasn't it?

Those old posts were a lot more interesting than the monomaniacal ones now. It's all RUSSIA! RUSSIA! and TDS.

Oh. He must have just been taking a day or two off. At least another dozen necroposts in the forum this morning.
