My parents, in retrospect, had a nearly perfect marriage, except their only son was a problem they argued about, in particular his volunteering for the Army. Mom was strongly opposed. If I had listened to Mom I would have been a Burger King manager just like Dad, retiring peacefully at 62 rather than still working at 70 after 52 years of tumultuous adventures.

I'm not 45 yet. I also have zero debt.

Also, "Average" is a bullshit number and you know it's a bullshit number. The only number that matters is the "Median", which is $168,600 for ages 45 to 54. It is also only $91,300 for ages 35 to 44, where I fall. I also bought my house, with cash, when I was only 32 years old, when the median net worth for under 35 years old is only $13,900 (Not adjusted for inflation, of course).

My home by itself is worth more than all of those numbers, and that doesn't include my other assets, of which you will never find out what those are.

But let's just say that I'm 43 years old and retired and leave it at that.
