Serenity Movie question

I have read in one place that the movie takes place 6 months after the series ended. Another place I read the movie will include a retelling of how we meet Simon and River. Without spoiling the movie can someone tell me when the movie picks up?

I'm relatively free of spoilery-goodness, but as I understand it, it both re-tells the tale and picks up six months after the series ends. I'm sensing flashbacky wonderments of a sort.
