Viktor Orbán laid out his dark worldview to the American right — and they loved it
The European Union’s only autocrat came to CPAC Dallas and sold American conservatives on a vision of a Western civil war.
About two weeks ago, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave a speech in which he declared “we do not want to become peoples of mixed-race.” On Thursday afternoon, he gave the opening speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, a bookend to former President Donald Trump’s closing address this weekend at the influential right-wing gathering.
That Orbán took the marquee spot at American conservatism’s most prominent jamboree despite his recent mask-off moment — one that led a longtime Orbán adviser to resign, calling his speech “worthy of Goebbels” — is a testament to his country’s place in the US right’s imagination. Under Orbán, Hungary has become for them something like what the Nordic countries are for some progressives: an idealized model of what they hope America could become. The most important difference is that the Nordic countries are firmly democratic, while Orbán’s Hungary very much is not.
Orbán was careful to reject charges of both racism and authoritarianism in his CPAC speech, mocking such accusations as “fake news” produced by “idiots.” Yet if you listened to his speech carefully, the dark heart of his project was plainly apparent: a conspiratorial belief that “globalists” were driving the West to the brink of cultural suicide, paired with an open acknowledgment that conservatives “cannot fight successfully by liberal means.”

Sounds like he's on to something.
The fact that Vox has a problem with it only solidifies that.

The city I grew up in has had two drive by shootings this summer as well as a guy who got shot inside his house for yelling out the window at 4:30AM when he woke up to noise and saw 4 hooded thugs in his neighbor's driveway breaking into his car. It used to be a nice neighborhood.
Democrats are spending record amounts of money and destroying the value of the dollar and still managing to turn the US into Mexico.
Nobody needs any convincing.
Get fucked.

Quote:Orbán, whose speech opened the conference in Dallas that Trump will close, has complained bitterly against Jews. Funny how the next country over from Orbán's country blamed all its problems on Jews. Funny Republicans blame their problems on Democrats. Funny how that works.

As a Democrat, you're not a protected class. How dare you compare yourself to a Jew for being a Democrat?
Get fucked, worm.
Meanwhile, in reality...
I've got about 10,000 posts here from you that are examples of Democrats blaming all of their problems on Republicans. Funny how that works, huh?

During the 2022 midterm, there are a couple of ways in which the Democratic appeal is essentially that they will act as a counterweight against an out-of-step Republican party.
1) The first involves the Supreme Court. Historically we refer to the legislative and executive as the “political branches,” as opposed to the supposedly apolitical judiciary. The general public no longer sees the Court that way. In a Quinnipiac University survey, 63 percent of voters agreed that “the Supreme Court is mainly motivated by politics.” And a Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that 74 percent of adults say the Court has become “too politicized.”
If people regard the Court as a political branch that is overreaching what the public wants, then they may view the midterms as a way to check it.
2) Another target for checks and balances is Donald Trump. In normal times, voters would not see any need to check the loser of the last presidential election. But these are not normal times. Trump is likely to run in 2024 and has already said as much.
Most Republican voters believe the lie that Trump won the 2020 election and as we saw on January 6, some of them are willing to act on that delusion. Trump and his followers are openly trying to stock Congress and state governments with election deniers. Many of them will be in office next year. Accordingly, a vote for Democrats is a vote against a powerful foe — not an incumbent administration, but a government-in-waiting and its accomplices.

3) People notice that Trumptards are unemployed assholes with guns shouting that climate change is a hoax and abortion is murder. Do people want to vote for the candidates favored by assholes? Not unless they are assholes, too!

Former President Donald J. Trump told his top White House aide that he wished he had generals like the ones who had reported to Adolf Hitler, saying they were “totally loyal” to the leader of the Nazi regime, according to a forthcoming book about the 45th president.
“Why can’t you be like the German generals?” Mr. Trump told John Kelly, his chief of staff, preceding the question with an obscenity, according to an excerpt from “The Divider: Trump in the White House,” by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, published online by The New Yorker on Monday morning.

No. No they aren't.
It's been 16 straight years of Democrats getting everything they wanted, even while Trump was in office.
They've fucked up the schools, they've fucked up the economy, they've fucked up foreign relations, they've fucked up immigration, they've fucked up criminal punishement, they've fucked up corporate culture, they've fucked up anything that Americans used to find enjoyable in life.
And then they went and fucked up every aspect of entertainment, so there's almost nowhere you can even go to get a break from them anywhere.
You are not the Opposition Party when you run everything (into the ground).

Quote:I heard the same complaints against Democrats from my East Texas relatives continuously from 1965 until today. Every problem was the fault of Democrats. When Republicans took control of the county government and state, still the same complaint that problems were the fault of Democrats. I know my relatives. Their problems couldn't be corrected by any elected official, but my relatives aren't the kind that understand they and well known local people living close-by (a greedy employer, an incompetent manager, a cheating-lying store owner) are the real problem, not some Democrat they heard about in the news. But my relatives are afraid of these very real people they see all the time. My relatives are much braver and more vocal attacking people they will never know in person.
