The Russian defense ministry, in a statement, sought to cast the retreat as “a gesture of goodwill” that would “not allow Kyiv to speculate on the impending food crisis,” since control of the island is vital to securing the shipping lanes in the northwestern corner of the Black Sea. Russia’s de facto naval blockade has prevented Ukraine from exporting most of its prewar average monthly supply of five million tons of grain.
Despite the Russian statement, there was no indication that the Kremlin will allow safe passage of Ukrainian vessels leaving the port of Odesa.

This would confirm what I and many others have been saying since Russia invaded: that this proxy war is being waged not with the intention of saving Ukrainian lives by delivering a swift defeat to Moscow but with the intention of creating a costly, gruelling military quagmire to weaken Russia on the world stage.

If the US Army goes into Ukraine, it will be Iraq all over again, where the US Army could not tell the difference between Shiites and Sunnis, except it will not tell the difference between Ukrainians and Russians. The US Army will murder everybody on all sides. Ukraine will be asking the US Army to please stop helping and leave the fighting to Ukraine. Who better knows the difference between Russians and Ukrainians? Maybe the US Army can skip over helping Ukraine and attack Russia directly? But then Russia will nuke Washington DC and NYNY. Putin has threatened to exactly that. While he is at it, Putin will nuke London because Boris Johnson has visited Ukraine.
