Nixon’s Leniency After My Lai Hurt Veterans. Trump’s May, Too.
A president’s actions in 1971 helped turn public opinion against those who fought the Vietnam War. By James E. Wright, December 15, 2019
Those who disagree with President Trump’s recent pardons for two U.S. soldiers and a sailor who committed war-zone crimes have focused on how his actions undermine the military justice system, the code of conduct, military discipline, and the integrity of the chain of command. But there is another serious consequence, one that flows perhaps less from the pardons themselves than from the ways in which the President and others explained and justified them.
A U.S. Army platoon led by Lt. William Calley Jr. had swept into the town of My Lai and, finding no enemy soldiers, proceeded to kill as many as 600 villagers, largely women and children. Thirty soldiers were charged with crimes, including senior officers who allegedly ignored accounts of criminal action, but ultimately only Calley was convicted.
There was considerable public support for Lt. Calley. In a Gallup poll taken the following month, 69 percent of the respondents said he was a scapegoat. Many of his defenders went farther, arguing that he was, in fact, a hero. Country music stations played “Set Lt. Calley Free” and “Battle Hymn of Lt. Calley,” the latter of which eventually sold some two million records.
President Nixon’s actions and statements in the Calley case seemed to validate the view that everyone did it and no one is guilty—or perhaps, as some argued, that we were all guilty.
Pardoning or reducing sentences generally represents a determination that the process was prejudiced or unfair, that the accused was actually innocent, or that the sentence was excessive. Seldom does a pardon represent a judgment that the pardonee actually committed the offense and moreover that doing it was a commendable thing. President Nixon was careful not to go quite that far in public statements regarding Lt. Calley.
The day after the verdict, Nixon ordered Calley released from the post stockade and placed under house arrest in the Fort Benning bachelor officer quarters. Appeals would eventually reduce his punishment to time served. I forgot to mention that Nixon won reelection by a landslide. His opponent, George McGovern, lost because he was forcefully against pardoning Lt. Calley, the murderer. Since 69 percent of Americans forgave Lt. Calley for being a murderer, McGovern's loss was inevitable.

50 years after My Lai:
You can see from the article that he (Lt. Calley) did open up to me about certain matters, and I was the only reporter to talk to him after his conviction. I was also at his apartment the day that George Wallace (the governor of Alabama) showed up. That’s the other big part of the story as far as I’m concerned: how this became a major political event in America. The political story essentially overwhelmed the legal story in the end.
A huge body of American opinion was deeply offended by the idea that an American soldier who went out there in good faith could be put on trial for his life. It became kind of a Rorschach test of people’s political views and their feelings toward the war. It was already apparent before the trial started that people who opposed the anti-war movement, who were disgusted with the youth countercultu

McConnell squares off with conservatives for downplaying 'violent insurrection'
Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell made clear this week that the deadly events on January 6, 2021, were a "violent insurrection" meant to stop the peaceful transfer of power -- a comment prompting backlash from a number of House and Senate Republicans.

The lawyers are still undecided about whether killing Ashli Babbitt on Jan 6th was right or wrong, Justice or Injustice:
Evaluating the Police Shooting of Ashli Babbitt
https://www.lawfareblog.com/evaluating-police-shooting-ashli-babbitt
There are enough facts to conclude that even if Byrd violated Babbitt’s Fourth Amendment rights, it is highly unlikely that he could be ethically charged with, let alone convicted of, a crime. But those conclusions, tentative as they are, assume that courts will apply the legal rules that usually apply to police shootings. Given the unique context present here, though, we would not be surprised if that turned out not to be the case.
I am not a lawyer, but if the police had killed thousands of Trumptards, it would have been MAGA sweet justice.

I keep ointing out, mentioning, and asking about the Bomb (aka Explosives Device) planted inside the Capitol Building by Liberals in the days prior to 6 Jan (intending to attribute it to attendees of the Rally far from the opposite side of the Capitol.)
Now it turns out that FBI are covering up and whitewashing the perpetrators who build and planted the Bomb(s), and also the Libtard Congressional Fake Commission on 6 Jan are also covering up all of this evidence and facts.

I'm still waiting on that video you were talking about.
The ones you linked the other day were of no use to anyone.

Mike Pence stood up for himself. Something must be off …
Trump has evolved into openly saying that his doormat, former Vice President Mike Pence, should have “overturned the election” in Trump’s favor. Presumably Trump felt that Pence would just take this degrading abuse, since that is how Pence has rolled for the past six years.
Remember that time that Trump egged on a mob that broke into the Capitol and chanted, “Hang Mike Pence”? If there was ever a time to 25th-Amendment Trump’s ass, that was it. But Pence just took it, and since leaving office, he’s kept pretty quiet. That changed last week.
In a speech to the Federalist Society, Pence said that “President Trump is wrong,” and that he, Mike Pence, “had no right to overturn the election.” That may be the bare minimum of a “rebuke” to Trump, but you’ve got to start somewhere. But that he even bothered to start somewhere, when there was no indication otherwise that preserving his dignity meant much to him, is another small indicator that Trump’s grip over the party is weakening.

Book by Julie Kelly.
The Libtard house of cards prosecution narrative is collapsing. Sounds like nobody has pled down, turned against the truth and facts.
One key foundational block in the Libtard case is the location of Kamala Harris and/ or Mike Pence, which all of the Fake Cases are built upon. This disbelief has been kept suspended by denying cross examinations of Secret Service Agents who have been testifying. But a Judge has finally ruled that facts must rule over fantasy. I think name is Judge McFadden.
U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden. Seems to have made his ruling on or prior to 25 Jan.
Now the Fake Foundation of all the cases can collapse.

Quote:Yes. But the point is that many innocent Patriots are being mercilessly persecuted using that Fake Narrative, in the Libtard hopes that one of them will break down and testify against the truth and facts of the case.
