Quote:Putin has done nothing to "Ukraine". He doesn't want it. And, yes, Crimeans VOTED to join Russia so, yes, they were asked.
SIGNYM:
"Russia needs breaking up,"
Isn't that for the Russians to decide?Or do you figure that you have the right to decide how to run the whole world?
With your kind of attitude, no wonder Putin is antsy about security!
SECOND: What Putin is attempting to do to Ukraine, he already has done to Russian republics. Putin has not asked Ukrainians for their permission,
And, as usual, you mirepresent the republics' status. They were never independent, but only relatively recently granted concessions by Yeltsin during the breakup of the Soviet Union. However, they were ALL still subject to Federal law and the constitution.
But the breakup was chaotic, driven by money-grabbing by local elites, and the various republics were given differing concessions leading to significant differences in authority, autonomy, and economic clout among them. Many of them adopted laws that clearly violated the Constitution.
It would be as if Mississippi voted slavery back into existence, for example, and Florida was required to maintain an army.
What the courts did was re-establish equality between them, creating clear divisions and lines of authority- what the Federal government is supposed to do, what th regions are supposed to do. Since the republics were still subject to Russian law and Constitution, and (BTW) still elected representatives to the Duma, this was done legislatively and through court decisions.
Quote:
Reform per se is nevertheless not a risky proposal. Changes were overdue to strengthen governance capacity; diminishing the influence of regional leaders over federal bureaucrats located in the regions; establishing more coherence in inter-budgetary relations, and sanctioning regions which flouted the constitution or federal laws. This article argues that it is possible to identify three axioms underlying Putin’s conception of federalism as articulated in his rhetoric and programme of reform, namely:
the equality of citizens,
symmetry of governments,
and a rigid division of powers and competences among
levels of authority.
So "Putin" didn't do "all th deciding".
At the same time, some of these regions are so sparsely populated that they can't even collect enough taxes to maintain administrative functions, so the federal government subsifies some of these regions to the tune of appx 45-55% of the budgets.
Quote:
In turn, the federal budget distributes subsidies to those regions that cannot collect enough taxes to ensure at least minimal local administrative functions. In 2020, 72 out of Russia’s 85 federal subjects were recipients of such payouts. The most dependent on federal subsidies are the national republics, like Tyva (subsidies account for 54 percent of the region’s budget revenues); Dagestan (52 percent); Chechnya (50 percent); Ingushetia (49 percent) and Altai (45 percent).

n any case, it seems to me that it is up to the peoples of Russia - NOT YOU, AND NOT WESTERN POWERS- to decide what is to happen to them. If you disagree it is YOU being undemocratic, not them. (But you have posted many times you hate democracy, so no surprise there!)
The only reason why the west wants to break up Russia is to be able to do away with the large national government, deal with smaller more vulnerable units and to exploit Russia's natural and economic resources on terms more favorable to non-Russian elites.

Let me anticipate your next objection, which would be that Trump is not in jail nor was he convicted in an impeachment, making his reelection in 2024 moot, therefore how could Trump have obstructed justice?
1kiki, the links you won't click (nor will allow yourself to understand if you did click) will explain, but you already know why that all the Democratic Senators and 7 Republican Senators voted to never allow Trump to run for office again.

Quote:Did Putin give Ukraine the equivalent of the Brexit Referendum? No. Putin did not. Nor did Putin have 22 Referendums before he ended 22 Russian Republics. Putin doesn't ask permission from all the little Citizens, not just the already powerful Big Shots. Too bad Putin is not that decisive about reviving the Russian economy.

The Soviet Union broke apart because of its poor economic performance.
How well is the New Russia's economic performance compared to the USA? Not so good.
Russia needs breaking up, but Putin is gluing the 22 pieces of the Russian Republics back together:

Signym talks shit. Her posts make no sense. The hypocrisy, two-facedness, contained within her posts when posting about Russia and its behavior is reprehensible.
As always, with comrade signmy Russia can do no wrong. As always with comrade signym her posts are dependent upon the reader believing her lies and not reality. She is a very sick woman.

Quote:Signym is more articulate, but less rabid, than any Trump lovers I know in Texas. I don't talk politics to Republican Texans because they live in a crazy land, the same psychological space that Confederate slave-owners lived in when the Rebels were crazily opposed to Abolitionists. The "wokeness" of Abolitionists drove Rebels crazy.

The War on ‘Wokeness’
The opponents of wokeness — whether they be conservatives who believe it injures the ideal of America as inherently good, or moderate Democrats worried that it handicaps their electoral prospects — want to kill it.
Republicans want to recast “wokeness” as progressive politics run amok, and many establishment Democrats shrink from the term because they either believe that Republicans have succeeded at the task, or, of even more concern, they agree with those Republicans.
Being awake to and aware of how our systems of power operate creates enemies across the political spectrum because wokeness indicts both Republicans and Democrats alike. Wokeness indicts the status quo.
And so, wokeness has been referred to in the most hyperbolic language imaginable, from ideology to religion to cult. It has been so derided and adulterated that young people who are what one would have called woke five years ago no longer even use the term.
Perhaps nothing helps to illustrate the chasm between moderates and progressives as well as a skirmish last week between the Democratic strategist James Carville and the Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Who cares if you are expressive, if what you articulate is based on lies and propaganda? Or if you change the context of written media content to promote or articulate a lie you wish to propagate? Who cares if you are articulate when doing so?
Comrade Signym does this and more when she posts. And no topic is off limits when it comes to her biasing the facts. She has also over the years repeatedly contrived fake personal relationships with all manner of experts so she can post their experiences supporting her conclusions. She’s a liar, a con and a troll. And oh yeah; a Polish Russian Collaborator who lies on behalf of Trump.
