Ex-Army Generals Fear Insurrection or 'Civil War' in 2024

Three retired U.S. Army generals have warned of insurrection or possibly even civil war if the results of the 2024 presidential election are not accepted by sections of the military.

Retired Major Generals Paul D. Eaton and Antonio M. Taguba joined retired Brigadier General Steven M. Anderson urged today's leaders to act to prevent such scenes, calling on today's leaders to "war-game" an attempted coup.

In an op-ed for The Washington Post published on Friday, the former military leaders said they were "increasingly concerned" about the "potential for lethal chaos inside our military, which would put all Americans at severe risk" in the aftermath of the election.

They warned of the potential for "total breakdown of the chain of command along partisan lines" and the risk of a "shadow government" led by a losing candidate who refuses to concede defeat, directly referencing former President Donald Trump.

"In short: We are chilled to our bones at the thought of a coup succeeding next time," they wrote.

And they outlined four preventative steps they argue should be taken:

1) First, the leaders of the Capitol riot should be held accountable. They called on the Department of Justice, the House of Representatives' Select Committee investigating January 6 and Congress to "show more urgency."

2) Second, the Pentagon "should immediately order" a soldier review on the Constitution and electoral integrity, and on the laws of war and how to deal with an illegal order. "No service member should say they didn't understand whom to take orders from during a worst-case scenario," they wrote.

3) The Army's actions should also involve finding and removing "potential mutineers" and stopping efforts to subvert the chain of command through propaganda.

4) Finally, the generals advised the Department of Defense to war-game a potential insurrection or attempted coup following the 2024 presidential election "to identify weak spots" and deal with them.

In explaining their concerns, the generals pointed to the fact that some veterans and active duty personnel were involved in the storming of the Capitol on January 6 and expressed concern that divisions in wider society will affect military personnel.

"The potential for a total breakdown of the chain of command along partisan lines - from the top of the chain to squad level - is significant should another insurrection occur," the generals wrote. "The idea of rogue units organizing among themselves to support the 'rightful' commander in chief cannot be dismissed."

"Imagine competing commanders in chief - a newly reelected Biden giving orders, versus Trump (or another Trumpian figure) issuing orders as the head of a shadow government," they went on. "Worse, imagine politicians at the state and federal levels illegally installing a losing candidate as president."

Trump has continued to maintain the 2020 presidential election suffered from serious voter fraud and other irregularities that cost him victory—claims repeatedly rejected by the courts and in post-election audits. Many of Trump's Republican allies have also pushed these unsubstantiated claims.

The generals warned that while U.S. service members take an oath to uphold the Constitution, in the case of a disputed election, loyalties would be split and some might choose to follow orders from the losing candidate who does not accept defeat.

"Under such a scenario, it is not outlandish to say a military breakdown could lead to civil war," they wrote. If such a situation were to arise, the generals warn the enemies of the U.S. could take advantage of it.

Nonetheless, the generals seemed hopeful that could be prevented if Congress and the m

Gee...

Maybe somebody would take you seriously about the 6th if any of you making all the noise about it ever once called out the behavior of BLM and Antifa during the summer of 2020.

The military must prepare now for a 2024 insurrection

https://web.archive.org/web/20211218193450/https://www.washingtonpost.

By Paul D. Eaton, Antonio M. Taguba and Steven M. Anderson Dec. 17, 2021 at 5:05 p.m. EST

Paul D. Eaton is a retired U.S. Army major general and a senior adviser to VoteVets. Antonio M. Taguba is a retired Army major general, with 34 years of active duty service. Steven M. Anderson is a retired brigadier general who served in the U.S. Army for 31 years.

As we approach the first anniversary of the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, we — all of us former senior military officials — are increasingly concerned about the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election and the potential for lethal chaos inside our military, which would put all Americans at severe risk.

In short: We are chilled to our bones at the thought of a coup succeeding next time.

One of our military’s strengths is that it draws from our diverse population. It is a collection of individuals, all with different beliefs and backgrounds. But without constant maintenance, the potential for a military breakdown mirroring societal or political breakdown is very real.

The signs of potential turmoil in our armed forces are there. On Jan. 6, a disturbing number of veterans and active-duty members of the military took part in the attack on the Capitol. More than 1 in 10 of those charged in the attacks had a service record. A group of 124 retired military officials, under the name “Flag Officers 4 America,” released a letter echoing Donald Trump’s false attacks on the legitimacy of our elections.

Recently, and perhaps more worrying, Brig. Gen. Thomas Mancino, the commanding general of the Oklahoma National Guard, refused an order from President Biden mandating that all National Guard members be vaccinated against the coronavirus. Mancino claimed that while the Oklahoma Guard is not federally mobilized, his commander in chief is the Republican governor of the state, not the president.

The potential for a total breakdown of the chain of command along partisan lines — from the top of the chain to squad level — is significant should another insurrection occur. The idea of rogue units organizing among themselves to support the “rightful” commander in chief cannot be dismissed.
Early on Jan. 6, The Post's Kate Woodsome saw signs of violence hours before thousands of President Trump's loyalists besieged the Capitol. (Joy Yi, Kate Woodsome/The Washington Post)

Imagine competing commanders in chief — a newly reelected Biden giving orders, versus Trump (or another Trumpian figure) issuing orders as the head of a shadow government. Worse, imagine politicians at the state and federal levels illegally installing a losing candidate as president.

All service members take an oath to protect the U.S. Constitution. But in a contested election, with loyalties split, some might follow orders from the rightful commander in chief, while others might follow the Trumpian loser. Arms might not be secured depending on who was overseeing them. Under such a scenario, it is not outlandish to say a military breakdown could lead to civil war.

In this context, with our military hobbled and divided, U.S. security would be crippled. Any one of our enemies could take advantage by launching an all-out assault on our assets or our allies.

The lack of military preparedness for the aftermath of the 2020 election was striking and worrying. Trump’s acting defense secretary, Christopher C. Miller, testified that he deliberately withheld military protection of the Capitol before Jan. 6. Army Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly scrambled to ensure the nation’s nuclear defense chains were secure from illegal orders. It is evident the whole of our military was caught off-guard.

With the country still as divided as ever, we must take steps to prepare for the worst.

First, everything must be done to prevent another insurrection. Not a

All, without exception, of the people I know who voted for Trump keep acting like those local news stories were of any importance to the nation. The stories were local and unimportant, unless you are a Trump voter or a frighten child who has nightmares of BLM and Antifa burning down their playhouses. If you Trump voters were not such a bunch of cowards with personality problems, you would never act the way you constantly do. Grow a spine, you chickenhearted Trump voters. Also, you loony Trump voters ought to make an appointment with a psychologist to fix your mental issues.

See Ted?

This is why Democrats are going to lose an entire generation of voters.

You need to cut the Second's out of your party before it becomes completely irrelevant.

US ‘closer to civil war’ than most would like to believe, new book says

Academic and member of CIA advisory panel says analysis applied to other countries shows US has ‘entered very dangerous territory’

The CIA actually has a taskforce designed to try to predict where and when political instability and conflict is likely to break out around the world. It’s just not legally allowed to look at the US. That means the CIA is blind to the risk factors that are rapidly emerging here.

But a book, How Civil Wars Start, in which those risk factors in the US are looked at using the CIA's method will be published in January. https://www.amazon.com/How-Civil-Wars-Start-Stop/dp/0593137787/

The US has fought a civil war, from 1861 to 1865, against states which seceded in an attempt to maintain slavery. Estimates of the death toll vary. The American Battlefield Trust puts it at 620,000 and says: “Taken as a percentage of today’s population, the toll would have risen as high as 6 million souls.”

The secessionists in 1861 accepted Lincoln’s election as fair and legitimate. The current situation is the opposite. Trump’s questioning of the election, which was at first rejected by Republican leaders after the attack on the Capitol, has led to a genuine crisis of legitimacy.

With Republicans’ hold on the levers of power while in the electoral minority a contributing factor, this crisis metastasizes, throughout the system over time, so that it’s possible any and all close elections will be claimed by Republicans to be false and fraudulent.

If rightwing militia groups were to seek to mimic the secessionists of the 1860s and attempt to seize federal forts and offices by force it would be over quickly given a very strong and firm sense at the top of the US military of its constitutional, non-political role.

But given the proliferation of guns, there could be any number of seemingly random acts of violence that come from organized militias, which are really vigilantes and with partisan agendas.

The real nightmare would be that kind of low-intensity conflict.

America has a problem with people who get anxious about news stories that have absolutely no effect on their lives. Those kind of anxious and chicken-hearted people tend to vote for Trump. People who have chicken hearts, who are cowardly, who are prone to panic, are people who have never done well in America. This country runs very well for brave people. But for chickens? People who are too cowardly to quickly seek better jobs? People who won't bravely move to a new place with better opportunity? America has never treated those kind of cowardly people very well and those people resent getting their scared asses kicked by American businesses/bosses and those people have voted for Trump. Sorry to tell Trump voters and 6ix, but Trump is not gonna be able to fix what is wrong with you.

But why won't Trump fix you? Because he is one of those American businessmen and bosses who have been kicking your ass all your life. Trump knows exactly what you want, and will tell you he will give it to you, but he won't because he is a businessman. It is not to his advantage, once he is President, to give 6ix what he wants. And all the Republicans in Congress don't want to give it to you, either. If Trump voters weren't as stupid as chickens, they would have figured this out a long time ago, but I don't expect them to ever learn, no matter what happens. I don't expect them to ever act bravely around their bosses at work, either. Fear and trembling made them Trump voters. And I certainly don't expect them to remain sane. The news will always scare Trump voters into insanity.
