We know both groups have very low rates of re-infection, but direct comparisons to assess vaccine efficacy after recovery are fraught.
The right answer would be to conduct an RCT of vaccination among those who recovered. It could have 3 arms. No further doses; 1 dose, or 2 doses. It could be large (after all, millions have recovered), and powered to look for rates of severe disease. In the absence of this, experts are largely speculating.
So here is what blows my mind: We are living in a world where the CDC director can say something that is false, made-up and no institution will say otherwise. [that masks reduce risk of infection by more than 80%] At the same time, major, venerable fact checking institutions are literally asserting as fact something which is at best unproven.
No matter how you feel about these issues; these are dangerous times. Truth and falsehood is not a matter of science but cultural power— the ability to proclaim and define the truth. If this continues, dark times lie ahead. Someday soon, we may not like who defines the truth.

By Gallup’s own numbers, too, only 19% of Republicans favor vaccine requirements for federal workers, 17%, for privately employed workers, 25% for hospital workers, and 33% for the paid time off deal.
So how is it that we arrive at the idea the “majority in U.S.” support the Joe Biden-type vaccine mandates — as Gallup wrote? As after which many, many, many in the media then reported?
That was September. The deceptions continue.
From Politico, on October 9, this headline: “POLITICO-Harvard poll: Most Americans support vaccine mandates for school kids.”
Again, keep reading. The truth will come. Eventually.
“Nearly three in four Democrats favor a vaccine mandate for the students while 59 percent of Republicans are opposed,” Politico wrote. “Just over half of self-described independents also are against the mandates.”
In other words, about three-quarters of Democrats want the mandates on kids; most Republicans and most independents, do not.
Once again, the headline, the summary line, the Twitter message, the shared social media takeaway becomes this: A majority of Americans want COVID-19 mandated vaccines for school kids. A majority in America support vaccine mandates for children.
No. They don’t.
A majority of Democrats do — but that’s because the majority of Democrats are the ones using the coronavirus as tools to oppress and control. It’s Joe Biden and Joe Biden’s socialist-fueled White House and Joe Biden’s globalist-infiltrated administration and Joe Biden’s band of merry Marxists masquerading as members of the Democrat Party who have taken this coronavirus and run roughshod over individual liberties for going on two years now, all the while claiming that science dictates this, oh wait a minute, now science dictates that, oh wait just another second, science now dictates this — all the while expecting the good people of America to jump, jump, don’t ask questions, just jump — it’s these types who’ve taken a virus and exploited it for personal agenda.
As for those who did ask questions?

Since this vaccine is injected, it doesn't stimulate mucosal antibodies, only internal antibodies delivered through the blood. The vaccines were specifically designed to prevent serious illness and death. Also remember, there is NO vaccine - no matter how good - that's 100% effective. So breakthrough infections shouldn't be used as a measure of success or failure for these vaccines.

That came as a big fucking surprise to all of the people who ran out and got the vaccine just to make this all go away when those Texas Democrats all had breakthrough cases from swapping spit or whatever they were doing on that plane flight.
The media didn't tell anybody that it wasn't going to prevent infection until at least 50% of Americans were already vaccinated. There's a lot of buyer's remorse out there now, but you never hear about it because the internet is so heavily censored regarding Covid.
I'm not accusing you of pretending that the Media was up front and honest about any of this, but don't ignore the fact that they lied by omission either.

When the vaccines were first being developed, all the caveats about infections v serious illnesses and deaths were thoroughly and frequently reported. They seemed to be lowering expectations.
After the vaccines tested out as preventing roughly 85% of infections against the alpha COVID-19 strain was when the facts were blurred. There was A LOT of weasel-wording to imply one thing (95% effective!!! ... at what, they failed to specify.) while actually saying something else. And at some point a few people did slip into outright falsehoods.
That was something I was posting about all along. But I didn't do any special digging to find that particular set of facts, I just paid attention-to the news more closely, and remembered it longer, than most.
