The quick collapse of the Afghan army after 20 years and tens of billions spent on training and equipment is the clearest possible evidence that there was no path to victory or stability in Afghanistan.
No withdrawal at all and a protracted tug-of-war with senior U.S. military officers deeply invested in putting off unpleasant decisions about an Afghan project that has defined so many military careers are not options.
Biden looks determined not to let the military leadership do to him what it did to Obama a decade ago. Obama was jammed by the military leadership into what proved to be an aimless, futile surge of US forces into Afghanistan.

Do we have genuine broad international support?
Apparently, we've learned nothing since then! And yes, Pakistan was always involved.

I need to say it as plainly as possible: the whole point of the Afghanistan War was revenge. When the US Army couldn't find Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan, the Army imagined new tasks, which it was completely incompetent to perform, in order to justify being in Afghanistan. Too bad President Obama allowed those tasks to continue after Bush left office. Even worse, after bin Laden was dead, Obama did not end those tasks because the GOP would have said that the deaths of American soldiers would be in vain if the Army pulled out before completing tasks it can not complete.
