Clearly the Taliban are on the cusp of declaring victory in Kabul far ahead of that date marker, and certainly very far ahead of the initially conceived September 11 symbolic 'mission accomplished' date (without doubt whatever plans were laid for an optimistic sounding 9/11 "we're out of Afghanistan" or even "mission accomplished" speech will be scrapped).

Here's the exchange from a bit over a month ago:

REPORTER: Is a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan now inevitable?

THE PRESIDENT: No, it is not.

REPORTER: Why?

THE PRESIDENT: Because you — the Afghan troops have 300,000 well-equipped — as well-equipped as any army in the world — and an air force against something like 75,000 Taliban. It is not inevitable.

Perhaps this utter failure to grasp or predict anything close to reality on the ground in the conflict is a failure also shared by US intelligence, given that it was only in June that a widely reported intel assessment forecast that Kabul could fall within six months.

But just last week that assessment was significantly revised to say within "one month to 90 days". Merely the last 48 hours has obviously proven this completely off the mark as well.

So far the vax and complications and the medical failures are such a huge part of my life it's hard to see the rest of the fail. All this fail started with Trump tho, it just has gotten so much worse now. I don't think Trump and Biden are bad people, I think they're weak leaders.

I don't care about illegal immigration, or the Iran deal or the tariffs. I think backing out of the artic oil deal was a bad move, I don't know to what extent that has progressed though, haven't followed it that closely.

They pointed out something interesting: speeches, photos of Biden* - he is all by himself.

Normally, you would expect to see the VP, Scy Defense, Scy State, etc standing shoulder to shoulder with the President, presenting a strong united front.

Alex thinks that this is to isolate Biden* so that when he's gotten rid of, nobody else goes with him.

If this is true- if Biden* is the designated scapegoat for all unpopular decisions- then it is likely that he still has a few unpopular decisions to be placed on his shoulders. Hubby thinks it's a withdrawal from Iraq. I'm thinking prolly a domestic decision or two.
