All you cats and kittens out there with time to spare (particularly if you're watching recorded versions of the show and all) I'm going through all the synopses here and wherever I can find then for names, places, things, slang, etc. to compiile a full on Firefly glossary. Since the one here on site is sparse I'll be submitting it for posting and updates, but right now I think it's just too much for one person (ie sysop) to handle.

Gimme anything you can.

Thanks.

Guailo, you Secret Beatnik

What you got so far? Where to start?

A for Atmo: as in, "Aaaah! The atmosphere!"
B for Boros: where the rich and prosperous, or at least less poor, live
C for Crappy Compression Coil: bet you wish you'd listened to her, huh, Mal?
D for Dong Ma: Dig me, bao-bei!

Like that? On down to Shepherd (the outfit gives it away), Triumph (beware ladies with hats made of trees) and Vera (my very favorite gun).

E is for Early: Not a lion.
F is for Firefly: A classic design.
G is for Guai: As in "What the ...?"

I'll leave room for others to play

Guialo is the Chinese equivaltent of the Japanise word Gaijin.

And that's close, but I'm talking complete. here's an entry example.

Vera: Compressed Plasma Revolver (CPR) owned by the mercenary Jayne Cobb aboard the Firefly class starfrieghter Serenity. There is no record as yet as to why he has named his gun at all, much less this.

I'm trying to cross reference too, so that Jayne's entry mentions that he owns a gun named Vera, works for Mal aboard Serenity, etc.

Okey-dokey.

I'll keep a running list today if I can.

I wrote that ABC post right before I went to bed last night and couldn't get to sleep for thinking things like:

L for le-se: Serenity ain't le-se!

I have a list going, here's a few I have written down.

Vera: Callahan full-bore autolock, custonized trigger and a double-cartridge torough gauge.(Vera was introduced in Our Mrs. Reynolds when Jayne attempted to trade his best rifle to Mal for Saffron.)

Grizwald: Pressure sensitive grenade the size of a battery. (Mentioned in a table discusion in War Stories about why Mal, Zoe and Jayne always cut their apples in stead of just bitting into them.)

Trace Compression Block: Powers Serenity. (Mentioned in a cut scene from the pilot episode were Kaylee is selling Book on the prospect of riding on Serenity.)

Gurtlser Engine: Twitchy unreliable engine seems it shakes the ship while in flight. (From the same conversation as mentioned in the Trace Compression block.)

Compression Coil: Neccessary to run the Grav Thrust efficiantly. (Mentioned in the Train Job when Mal finds Kaylee in Inara's shuttle.)

Net: Employed by Carrion Houses and Scrap Shops. It's a electromagnetic feild that holds ships in thrall. The newer ones just hold a ship and scrappers deal with the occupants as they see fit. The older ones turn the ship into electric conduit and fry everyone on the ship. (Shepard Book describes their use in Our Mrs. Reynolds.)

Good Night Kiss: Narcotic compound spead over a seal on the lips of the user. It's a sedative and it knocks out who ever is kissed. (Women would use this on ususpecting men and rob them, described by Simon Tam in Our Mrs. Reynolds.)

I have a lot bigger list than that these are just a few examples of it. Oh Inara's last name is Serra and she was born on Sihnon. If anyone can find the last names of Zoe and Wash I would be greatful.

Yeah, you're a few steps ahead of me. Good grief I wish I could get my hands on eps. Got one more source to try out.

I may as well e-mail you what I've got, but chances are your glossary is much more complete already.

Have you checked out the thread called "DVDs"? You can get a set from TRS80.

I was needin' VHS until I get a new, working DVD player, but I got a line on some now so I'll be set in the next week or so.

Thanks anyhow...

Ho ho. Wouldn't we all. This conversation went on for quite a long time over on the Fox boards. What if "Wash" is his last name?

Theories abound, mostly centering around Wash as an abbreviation for Washington. Again, first or last name? Annecdotal evidence for both sides was duly presented. Conclusions were never reached.

Lotsa luck!
