Yep, he should have gotten the damn vaccine. As a casino worker, he prolly came into contact with hundreds of people a day, putting him at high risk of exposure. But it's his choice. He rolled the dice and got bad luck.

If it were me running the show, my message would be this:
The virus is constantly evolving. So far, it seems to be evolving in the direction of high transmissibility but lower lethality. The vaccines do a good job of protecting you from serious illness but aren't effective at preventing transmission.
If you're at risk of getting seriously ill- over 50, obese, or with X,Y,Z risk factors, or you're occupationally exposed to a lot of people, I urge you to get a vaccine. If you take care of someone who is vulnerable, please try to get them vaccinated. If you're still concerned about catching the virus, N95s will be made available.
If you choose not to get vaccinated or wear mask, go about your regular business. There will be no lockdowns and no mask mandate.
But because this virus is constantly evolving, we continue to track its behavior and the effectiveness of the current vaccines and also possible treatments for the disease. If the virus evolves into something more deadly, and booster shots or other measures needs to be taken, we'll let you know.
