Trump's Oval Office was nicknamed 'the Star Wars bar' because so many bizarre characters would hang out there

Some here seem to forget Biden beat Trump. So I'll remind them that Biden won and Trump is a loser.

Then-President Donald Trump allegedly praised Adolf Hitler during a discussion with his White House chief of staff John Kelly in 2018 while on a trip to Paris to commemorate the armistice after World War I, according to excerpts of an upcoming book, obtained by CNN, from Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender.

"Well, Hitler did a lot of good things," Trump reportedly told Kelly, who was explaining to the 45th President who the allies and adversaries were in both World Wars, according to Bender.

Bender also writes in the book, titled "Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost," that Trump was "undeterred" and persisted in his defense of the German dictator by claiming the country made economic gains under Hitler's leadership.

Trump denied the comments and that the conversation happened when asked about it by Bender.

"This is totally false. President Trump never said this. It is made up fake news, probably by a general who was incompetent and was fired," Liz Harrington, chief spokeswoman for Trump, told CNN Wednesday.

CNN has reached out to Kelly for comment about the claim in the book.

The claims from the new book are the latest example of Trump praising or embracing authoritarian leaders. On the campaign trail in 2016, Trump dismissed comparisons to Hitler as he faced criticism for asking voters to raise their right hand and pledge to support him, a practice some compared to the "Heil" salute from Nazi Germany.

Kelly, according to Bender, was stunned by Trump's comment and pushed back against the then-commander in chief.

"Even if it was true that he was solely responsible for rebuilding the economy, on balance you cannot ever say anything supportive of Adolf Hitler," Kelly reportedly told Trump. "You just can't."

Bender also wrote that "others said the remark stunned Kelly."

The new book also details how Trump's language became increasingly violent during Oval Office meetings as protests in Seattle and Portland, Oregon, began to receive attention from new outlets. The then-President would highlight videos that showed law enforcement getting physical with protesters and tell his administration he wanted to see more of that behavior, the excerpts claim.

"That's how you're supposed to handle these people," Trump told his top law enforcement and military officials, according to Bender. "Crack their skulls!"

He also told his team that he wanted the military to go in and "beat the f--k out" of the civil rights protesters, Bender writes.

Harrington told CNN that this claim in the book is "false" as well.

The 2018 trip was already an infamous chapter in Trump’s presidency because it included the occasion on which he referred to United States troops killed in World War II as “losers” in the course of canceling a trip to an American cemetery near Paris because he thought his hair (or “hair“) would look bad in the rain.

The pro-Hitler statements by the ex-president — whose administration made “America First” its central policy slogan — are of note, historically, for their resonance with the positions of the original, Hitler-friendly America First movement, which held during the ’30s that the United States’ involvement in another European war would be a waste of resources and lives. They are also of historic note because they mark the first occasion that we know of during which a postwar American president argued with his chief of staff about whether Hitler was good, in the course of canceling a trip to a military cemetery because he didn’t want his hair to get wet.

He (Trump, not Hitler) is widely considered likely to be the Republican nominee for the presidency in 2024.

Trump's associates believe he is 'off his rocker'

"You have a situation in which virtually everyone around Trump - we're not talking Democrats here, we're talking Trump aides, intimates, and supporters - everyone believes he has gone off his rocker. Let's not put too fine a point here. They believe he is crazy.

Trump came back from his trip to Russia and started spouting themes that happened to dovetail closely with Russia’s geopolitical goal of splitting the United States from its allies. There was a reasonable chance that the Soviets had planted some of these thoughts, which he had never expressed before the trip, in his head.

Trump has continued to fuel suspicion by taking anomalously pro-Russian positions. He met with Putin in Helsinki, appearing strangely submissive, and spouted Putin’s propaganda on a number of topics including the ridiculous possibility of a joint Russian-American cybersecurity unit. (Russia, of course, committed the gravest cyber-hack in American history not long ago, making Trump’s idea even more self-defeating in retrospect than it was at the time.) He seemed to go out of his way to alienate American allies and blow up cooperation every time they met during his tenure.

He would either refuse to admit Russian wrongdoing — Trump refused even to concede that the regime poisoned Alexei Navalny — or repeat bizarre snippets of Russian propaganda: NATO was a bad deal for America because Montenegro might launch an attack on Russia; the Soviets had to invade Afghanistan in the 1970s to defend against terrorism. These weren’t talking points he would pick up in his normal routine of watching Fox News and calling Republican sycophants.

Reporter Craig Unger got a former KGB spy to confirm on the record that Russian intelligence had been working Trump for decades. In his new book, “American Kompromat,” Unger interviewed Yuri Shvets, who told him that the KGB manipulated Trump with simple flattery. “In terms of his personality, the guy is not a complicated cookie,” he said, “his most important characteristics being low intellect coupled with hyperinflated vanity. This makes him a dream for an experienced recruiter.”

et-mueller-putin-kompromat-unger-book.html

Russian intelligence gains influence in foreign countries by operating subtly and patiently. It exerts different gradations of leverage over different kinds of people, and uses a basic tool kit of blackmail that involves the exploitation of greed, stupidity, ego, and sexual appetite. All of which are traits Trump has in abundance.

This is what intelligence experts mean when they describe Trump as a Russian “asset.” It’s not the same as being an agent. An asset is somebody who can be manipulated, as opposed to somebody who is consciously and secretly working on your behalf.

I think Trump is hilarious, but he is gonna get himself assassinated by some Secret Service officer who takes his oath seriously to protect the United States from all enemies, either foreign or domestic:

5 U.S. Code § 3331 - Oath of office

An individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: “I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” This section does not affect other oaths required by law.

I do hope the Trumptards who vote for Trump realize that if he runs for office again, the guys who are assigned to protect him also took an oath to kill people like him. Just in case one of his bodyguards realizes that conflict, Trump better hire his own security. That will be very funny when Trump realizes that the Secret Service might kill him. His paranoia will skyrocket to ludicrous heights.

Check out how many heads of state were killed by their own security guards. One that comes to mind is Indira Gandhi, but there are many more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assassinated_and_executed_heads_
of_state_and_government

Security guards are probably the most patriotic employees around, but when a head of state loses their sanity (Trump lost his years ago) and acts against the country (Trump, again), the guards start thinking about their responsibility to their country. Their "thinking" never goes very far because thinkers don't become guards, but it all boils down to whether earning a paycheck or saving the country is more important to the guard. They will prefer the paycheck, but maybe not all guards, all the time. There is a fascinating List of assassination attempts on Adolf Hitler. All attempts failed because the kind of plans guards are capable of making will be poorly made:

Donald Trump stated on July 7, 2021 in a press conference:

"The person that shot Ashli Babbitt — boom — right through the head — just boom — there was no reason for that."

That statement was rated FALSE on the PolitiFact Truth-O-Meter because there were good reasons, but just not good for Trump and his future as President.

A reporter asked Trump, "Because so much of your banning (on social media platforms) has to do with comments you made around Jan. 6, just to clarify further, what did you do to stop the insurrection as some people call it, and why were you not able to stop it?"

In his answer, Trump called the storming of the Capitol an "unfortunate event" and pivoted to the death of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old San Diego woman who was shot and killed by a U.S. Capitol Police officer when a crowd of rioters was trying to force its way into the House chamber.

"The person that shot Ashli Babbitt — boom — right through the head — just boom — there was no reason for that," Trump said. "And why isn’t that person being opened up, and why isn’t that being studied? They’ve already written it off. They said that case is closed. If that were the opposite, that case would be going on for years and years, and it would not be pretty."

It would not be pretty if Trump were to be shot dead. That may or may not be rated unfortunate for America by PolitiFact. Who can know until somebody pulls the trigger? Maybe "Et tu, Brute?" will be Trump's famous last words? More likely "And you, Jared?"
