People on the ground say the official numbers are far higher that the government is saying. This is very sad, horrifying.

Nope.

Imagine the hypocrisy of a government who will allow businesses to card people to get a job or buy groceries, but won't card people to vote in elections and gives millions of non-citizens free money from taxpayers.

Medical vs Environmental Deaths

The first thought experiment considers causes of death of two different kinds, and at first glance it may appear to be an entirely outrageous question to ask:

If the 1.8 million deaths globally attributed to the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus in 2020 required and continue to require extreme measures, why do the 1.4 million global road fatalities every year not require anything but tiny incremental actions? What principle of action warrants immediate extreme action with significant unpredictable side effects in the case of (say) lockdowns, but no action at all in the case of the most deadly environmental health risks? Or to put this another way, why do medical causes of death utterly overshadow environmental health causes of death? Should they? If so, what principle is it that informs us that environmental causes of death don’t matter, while medical causes of death require action, even in cases with severe health (and mental health) consequences?

Lung cancer could be substituted for the novel coronavirus, as it causes 2 million deaths annually and this prompts a variety of interventions in most nations; air pollution could be substituted for cars; it contributes to the deaths of some 7 million people... although cars are, of course, a major contributor to this.

To understand the dangers of Covid passports, simply imagine an obesity equivalent

Being overweight is a public health epidemic, so why is it that we don't restrict the freedoms and choices of the obese?

Second just wants to make everything illegal, or at least let Democrats do what Democrats do best and tax behavior they don't like out of existence.

I vote Democrat because I'm a Consequentialist.

No Trumptards that I know and less than half of Democrats think in a cool-headed manner about consequences. Most wealthy people who didn't inherit money (Trump inherited a billion) clearly think ahead everyday about the consequences of what they do.

Covid-19 appears perfectly engineered to destroy the houses of sand built by populist leaders. Narendra Modi poured scorn on experts and scientists who warned his country faced a "tsunami" of infection. Now the Indian Prime Minister is being harshly criticized for premature triumphalism amid a terrible surge that has people dying in the streets. Former US President Donald Trump's denialism appears to have cost tens of thousands of lives. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro fueled a disaster by rejecting Covid-19 countermeasures in favor of crank cures. UK PM Boris Johnson paid a heavy personal and political price for ignoring the threat of the pandemic early on.

The pandemic is guaranteed to expose leaders who undermine truth, create alternative realities, ostracize experts and scientists and refuse to take precautions to keep the public safe. Earlier this month for instance, Modi boasted of huge rally crowds ahead of elections in West Bengal. His hubris in the face of the virus recalls Trump's refusal to give up rallies last year at which he boasted the virus was being driven out -- even as his crowds contributed to a building wave of lethal infections that winter.

You vote Democrat because you're an authoritarian fascist.

The other people who vote Democrat are either exactly like you, or they are stupid.

There is no third option.

Sorry, I'm a much worse person than that. I don't fit the description of authoritarian fascist. I prefer to think of myself as Jayne, if he had fought in the Unification War for Alliance, lost, gone to college, got married, started a business. But I'm probably more like Badger -- a low life businessman with roots in the community. I don't soar the level of Adelai Niska. That guy is a 26th Century NAZI. He is probably meant to symbolize an authoritarian fascist who tortures Space Jews/Gypsies to death, for profit.
