Gina Carano, Joss Whedon—this week has been full of dispiriting news about people many fans admire.

Letitia Wright still has a job with the MCU, does she not ? Pretty sure she does, despite Don Cheadle calling her remarks ' hot garbage ', which clearly he's entitled to , but honestly, so is she entitled to her views.
But here's the kicker... nothing Gina said was even up for debate. She wasn't going after anyone, didn't do 1 damn thing wrong, except lay some history on some folks which the woke mob didn't want to hear.
Each studio deals with their people their own way. I get it. But what Disney SW did was throw up a yuge double standard in regards to Pedro and Gina. If they were consistent, he'd be out of a job too, or neither of them would. It's just that simple.

I'm not going to argue there aren't double standards. Clearly there are, and anybody who thinks that is up for debate isn't even worth conversing with.
All I'm saying is that nobody is immune to cancel culture. Some people are just given a longer leash than others.
I can't answer if Letitia Wright still has a job with the MCU or not. Like I said, nobody ever followed up on the story and she deleted her own Twitter account. I'd say it's a fortunate time for her with production of nearly everything in hiatus.
My guess is that they're trying to save her job (because she is a black woman). They let her know that expressing any opinions about the vaccinations that isn't in line with the Legacy Media narrative is strictly off limits, gave her a good spanking, and told her to maintain radio silence for a while, and hope that everybody forgets completely about her tweet by the time production ramps up for Black Panther II.
Surely, had Chris Pratt been the one who made the same tweet, he would have already been fired.

All that being said, I think the best thing that somebody can do when being attacked by the mob is to just disappear for a while and hope for the best. They're doing the right thing with Wright.
Look at Jimmy Kimmel. He's still got a job even though they came after him.
All he had to do was go on vacation for a while before people moved on to their next target and forgot about him.

Letitia gets some cover for the fact that there was a global pandemic, and then Chadwick died, so the entire schedule for BP2 is in limbo. That delay can end up saving her, if she wants it to. She can stay totally defiant like Gina did , and let the chips fall where they may, or she can vanish for a while, until this all blows over.
I think she should do and say what ever the hell she wants. I'd respect her more if she sticks to her guns.
As for Kimmel, has he apologized for his black face bits, or his creepy guy-on-the-street interviews where he'd get random young women to dig into his front pockets?
That's all on tape. He did that, got paid FOR doing it, and knew THEN it was sketchy at best. But that's what he was going for, so he can't claim he ' didn't grasp the severity of damage ' or some such nonsense. Just like Kathy Griffin , he was ' pushing the envelop' and should be PROUD of his work, right ?
frick cancel culture.

So would I, but then again I have no desire to be rich or famous, so that's very easy for me to say.
I don't envy any of their shoes.

Don't know. I hope not. He's got nothing to apologize for. At least in regards to edgy shit he did on an edgy show 20 years ago when things were a lot different.
If you apologize once, it's all over. They won't accept the apology, and they can smell the blood in the water.

I'd say the Kathy Griffin thing was a little different. Part of me doesn't even blame her though because the Legacy Media was so hateful of Trump from day one that people like her would actually believe they could do something like that and there wouldn't be any repercussions. But it wasn't Rush Limbaugh's fake severed, bloody head she was holding. It was the current President of the US.
I mean, that just goes to the whole hypocrisy of it all. Imagine anybody in the 8 years prior thinking for a single second it would have been a good idea to do the same thing with a fake Obama head. Never in a million years.
Kathy Griffin was nothing more than a D-Girl on her best day. Completely unfunny. She must have had some powerful friends on Comedy Central to keep putting her on the air back then.
It really was a shame to see what Kimmel and Silverman turned into though. I remember seeing Silverman for the first time on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and laughing my ass of whenever she opened her mouth. Even back in the wee days of the early 2000's I couldn't believe some of the stuff she said.
But yeah... F Cancel Culture.
Double F anybody who cancels themselves and/or apologizes to the mob.

Quote:You won't pass such a law in Texas. You won't get it from Congress, either. You certainly won't get the states to agree to revise the Constitution to protect this right you imagine for yourself. You could get an approximation of your preferred law if employees were unionized. But employees can't even agree to that and bosses won't cooperate with unionization, either. Too bad for whiny Trumptards who would be smart to either keep your goddamn worthless opinions to yourself or else post them anonymously (under a pseudonym) at fff.net. Maybe Gina Carano needs to login here rather than under her real name?

Perhaps it's time to change that.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek denies that former MMA star Gina Carano was fired from her role on The Mandalorian on political grounds. “I don’t really see Disney as characterizing itself as left-leaning or right-leaning, yet as standing for values — values that are universal,” Chapek said (via MMA Fighting). “Values of respect, values of decency, values of integrity and values of inclusion. And we seek to have not only, how we operate but the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world that we live in.”

In other words, Disney told Carano to not attach her stage name to her opinions if she wanted to work at Disney. Until Disney employees have new rights they don't have now, listen carefully to what the Disney CEO told you. If you don't listen, and the CEO finds out about you, so sorry you lost your job, but it is your own fault.
I see that the Federal government has Protections Against Discrimination and Other Prohibited Practices

Gina Carano is NOT protected. If she had been a federal employee rather than Disney, Carano possibly would be protected, but a lawyer would have to look at the details of the federal laws.

It doesn't matter what forum you're posting in, bud. I only read the first sentence of anything you have to say anymore.
That being said this isn't a right "I imagine for myself."
It's not for me. I'm not an idiot that talks politics while working, and I don't go on the Twitter/Facebook bullhorn and let people know what I think either.
My employers thus far would believe I was apolitical if they're dumb, or realize that I'm smart enough not to get into such debates in the workplace if they have a few neurons firing.
And if I had a manager like you who was trying to force me into taking a stand on some political issues, and would not stop after telling them several times that I did not want to engage in political discourse with them, I'd just go right on down to HR and report you for it.

Until Science inflicts upon us the technology which makes us all part of a wi-fi hive-mind that we are prohibited by law to opt-out of, the best way not to get fired for your political beliefs is, and always was, simply not talking about them.

In other countries it is not that way because, theoretically, all your fellow employees can and will come to your aid, but how much help do you think actual American employees will give you against a tyrannical American boss? None.
What about if the boss is Disney? What about a boss such as Joss Whedon?
When Joss was being a tyrant while making TV and movies, no actors or writers stopped him from being awful. Now that Joss is unemployed because he has temporarily run out of creative energy and saleable ideas for comics and movies and TV, the actors and writers suddenly got brave enough to say something, except many years too late for Joss to learn better behavior.
