That's not to say America's numbers are not bad, they are terrible, the death rates are also very high alongside Europe and Central America
The virus has an incredible ability to spread , it went rapidly through a French military Aircraft Carrier, even far way places like Fiji islands, Guam, Malta, Iceland, Alaska and other distant places have been hit by the virus, maybe the only place it has yet to reach is some reseach place at the South Pole or maybe a space station
South Korea, Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand and some Oceania and islands are some fo the few places that have done a good job at stopping the virus although I would not trust China's media numbers.

Since the beginning it's always been estimated that the amount of undiagnosed cases is as many as 8 to 10 times what they have on record.
Not my problem if your agenda driven "news" sources are altering numbers to keep you terrified.
At 10 times, far more than 2/3rds of the country has already had Covid and recovered from it before the first needle got stuck in an arm.

The good news is, the same thing was true of smallpox - which has been globally eradicated; and is true of polio - which is on its way to being globally eradicated. And SARS-CoV-2 is very much like both those viruses, because none of them have a host reservoir in wild animals.
That makes it very much different from influenza, which is endemic in wild and domestic bird populations (it's theorized the 1917-18 pandemic was brought on the wings of Arctic geese), and in pig populations; and either of those can spread influenza to humans, OR act as recombinant vessels for avian-mammalian influenza which can then spread to humans. That's why flu can't be eradicated - to eradicate influenza globally, one would need to eradicate all strains in all birds and all pigs everywhere, wild and domestic, as well as humans.
So SARS-CoV-2 can at least in theory be wiped off the face of the planet. And it just depends how important that goal is and whether or not resources will be dedicated to accomplish it.

It will never be over. There's near zero ROI to shutting down the entire planet on the off chance that it could be. The only reason we haven't felt the brunt of our actions is that we still have printing presses that can make more monopoly money without a real care.
But what happens when the next bubble bursts during this bullshit worldwide shutdown? What do you suppose life would be like right now if we were hit with the dot com burst or the housing and DOW crash of 2008/2009?
The only thing scary about Covid is the ceaseless Legacy Media coverage of it.
