LOL...this group tends to argue n fight more than brothers and sisters in the most disfunctional household you could imagine..but in the end, we tend to get it done.
as for Disney...I'm thinking...thinned out version of Guardians of the Galaxy meets Firefly...they'll of course have to get the female "me too" thing ramped up..so change up the cast to make sure our gals (ooo..now there's a taboo term these days)..get to sit in the big chairs..and of course we'll have to have at least one gay relationship and those scenes will be written in no matter how it sidetracks the actual plot (see the latest star trek series nonsense)..they can hardly get a story plot started on an episode without having to cut in some gay relationship scene...don't assume I'm a homophobe... I'm talking about how they impose these issues into an otherwise perfectly well flowing story line.
guns of course are out.. i mean, can't have guns under our new world order...and how do you write story about an evil Federal Alliance in an age when we have such wonderful new leadership in DC?...they'llhave to flip things and make sure we understand that the crew of the Serenity are so misguided and ultimately will fail in dark depression, as the love sick gay boys break up with one of them seeing the light of the Alliance and leaving the crew for a better world...oh gawd.. I'm so depressed already...I'm not sure I could bare to watch even the pilot episode..maybe I'll be ok..if they have the female captain break into song like Aladdin's Jasmine's Speechless..and Kaylee can be a guy with Rainbow banners hanging on his wall and making eyes at Jayne and admiring his rain stick.

I DO know you've been here long enough to understand how people work. I get that you are frustrated with that, but sitting back and saying nothing DOES nothing.
There is an entire generation of dumb old fucks out there that deny reality and sit around whining (or assaulting things they JUST DON'T GET) on just about every modern topic because it may be uncomfortable for them to face ACTUAL facts. I admit right up front, I'm an old guy..in fact the big quote of sci-fi watchers the year I was born was "klaatu barada nikto"...you do the math.
Somehow over these many decades I've managed to stay married to the love of my youth (now 43 years), raised 4, enjoying 8 grands,worked 2 jobs since I was 15yrs old (had to) and never once killed, nor broken a soul. I don't even hunt, even though I love my guns as much as ol Mal.
believe it or not, I do "get" the concepts..albeit it can be hard to keep up with the latest terms and letters added to gender-speak and whatever hash-tag movement is afoot.
Fact is, being "educated" about it, doesn't change my knuckle draggin mind..and maybe that's what frustrates folks the most. They can interject their agenda items into movies, create new laws to impose their will, but in the end, if it's somehow ratified that two guys are wired from the ground up to be attracted to each other, then at some point, the "enlightened" folks need to acknowledge that same wiring can make it disgusting to me at my very core....what's good for the goose...
I have a wife and 3 daughters of my 4 kids, and 7 of my 8 are grandaughters..trust me when I say that I don't value a female soul any less than a male..that all "my girls" are fully empowered..my wife with her own business and her own hobbies, her own gun(s), scuba instructor, world traveler, my grands enjoy everything from golf, to archery, to soccer, gymnastics, dance, musicians ..and I'm there for every game, every concert, beside them to teach on my back yard range. I could type for another hour (you know how old farts can ramble) but no matter what I'd try to tell you about who I am, I'm sure I'd come up short in the measure of a man..and that, believe it or not, circles back around to the actual topic of this thread...how Disney might measure a man and woman and how they leverage the incredible gift/legacy that Walt left in their hands... Firefly , to me, was about clinging to the values of what makes us human, even as an Alliance had overwhelmed and won the day.
For all the verbosity of Serenity's movie The Operative, and no matter how sensible it sounded, at least Mal was grounded in such a fashion that he could see through the B.S. I can see what Disney does and they are far from alone in their efforts...and with that, I don't believe they can capture the essence of what drew me to love my Firefly....be well Wishy...
