Trump was telling the Capitol Building rioters to do what "Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution". Guess what happened next, Signym? It was on TV. The rioters stopped the counting of votes, which Mike Pence had refused to do for Trump.

January 6, 2021: The attack on the U.S. Capitol begins at approximately 1:15 PM.
Trump is reportedly “initially pleased” by events as he watches them unfold, and “disregard[s] aides pleading with him to intercede.”
In fact, according to Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska, White House aides say that President Trump is “delighted,” while “walking around the White House confused about why other people on his team [are]n’t as excited.”
President Trump initially rebuffs and refuses requests to mobilize the D.C. National Guard. Eventually, the Guard is mobilized after an order from Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and acting Defense Secretary Christopher C. Miller. Vice President Mike Pence approves the order and the Guard is deployed.
Republican House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy demands that Trump make a statement denouncing the rioters. He refuses, leading to a “screaming match” between the two men.
Ivanka Trump, the President’s daughter and advisor, tweets (and later deletes) a call for the violence to end, but addresses the tweet to “American Patriots,” earning swift backlash.
At 4:17 PM, President Trump releases a recorded statement on Twitter, reiterating his claims of a rigged election but telling the rioters that “You have to go home now, we have to have peace … We love you, you’re very special.”

The lack of preparation and the delayed response were not mere bureaucratic miscues. They were intentional. The Washington Post reported Jan. 7 that the “Pentagon placed tight limits on the D.C. National Guard ahead of pro-Trump protests this week, trying to ensure the use of military force remained constrained,” citing DOD memos issued Monday and Tuesday in advance of the domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol.
These memos, responding to requests for help from the D.C. mayor, “prohibited the District’s guardsmen from receiving ammunition or riot gear” and taking other specific actions that would have helped them protect the Capitol. The Post also reported that, as the insurrectionists were gathering early Wednesday, the Army denied a request by the chief of the Capitol Police for backup from 200 troops.
There remain many unanswered questions about the events leading up to and during the many actions of treason on Jan. 6. Already, however, it seems absolutely clear that the unprotected Capitol was an inside job — at the highest levels of our government.
