While I prefer the less socially acceptable 'taking the piss' (var. '...out of you/me/us/her/him'), both the mick and the piss are like saying 'pulling my leg' or 'having me on' or my favorite, "dipping Angus'pyle's pigtails in the inkwell".

Well, I do know what you mean. You've got a light touch that I wish I could emulate, instead of playing court jester.
But unless my mother's not telling me something (not that that would suprise me, of course), or you're offspring my "natural" father hasn't 'fessed up to (again, not going to be surprised), my wormhole theory is the only one that makes any kind of sense. My mother got deliberately pregnant with me 'way back in '65, so she and my biological dad could (this was the plan) get married. Instead, my BD got himself shipped out to Germany, my mother got pissed off (as she is wont to do), and married my "real" dad (ie, the dad who married my mother when she begged for help, adopted me, and raised me). I've met my BD, and was ignored by him so he could hang out with my brother-in-law (now deceased, although there is no correlation between meeting my BD and BiL dying). - Just biographical data so perhaps we can sort out the whole separated-at-birth thang....

Have I mentioned my fear of dentists? I had most of my early dental work done in NZ, where the dental nurses hadn't yet received anaesthetic technology. With genetically poor tooth materiel to work with, I was with the dental nurses a lot. Without anaesthetic. Yes, I bear a grudge.

Actually Angus Thermopyle is a Stephen R Donaldson character from his Gap novels. I think Harry Potter sucks lol. His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman was so much better - although I'd debate it being a children's series.
The non-caps on english intentional, btw. I don't capitalize fox either. That's my sole irretrievable cultish quirk.
I don't necessarily think Harry Potter sucks, although the movies leave a great deal to be desired. To say the least.
I will agree with you on the "His Dark Materials" trilogy - some damn fine writing. Reminds me of Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" - just when you think you know what's going on, it gets all twisty.
I also don't know how HDM got to be published in the children's arena. The only thing child-oriented is that the central character is a juvenile. The rest is written very much at an adult level.
