Canada's Global To Air 'Firefly

On Wednesday, various Canadian jaws dropped when executives were shown the latest project, called Firefly, by Joss Whedon, the much-admired creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its various spinoffs. Whedon had filmed a very expensive two-hour pilot (essentially a low-budget feature film) for the new series, about a universe-wide civil war 800 years in the future. The WB network decided to screen only a three-minute clip from that pilot — it was that bad. However, pilots often bear no relationship to the series they create (Seinfeld had an almost unwatchable, laughless pilot), and Global happily snapped up Whedon's show.

I have to agree with the author of the article, the Seinfeld pilot is pretty terrible and I'm a mega-huge Seinphile. And though I like the Buffy pilot it's got some not-so-great moments.

Of course if the pilot for FF has been re-written then the point is moot perhaps.

Good to see Global picking it up. I hate most of their programming and their coverage of NFL football is laughable (can I sue over their coverage of the Super Bowl?) they do have great audio and a good picture, at least where I live.

I assume you're referring to WttH/Harvest. But have you ever seen the unaired pilot joss made to sell the series? I think it's available on ebay, or wherever. Man did *that* suck...though it was never intended to air, so maybe it's not fair to criticize.

No offense to Global, but I rather have them not show it. I'd rather have a Global free viewing of Firefly. They take-over the Fox broadcast and we're stuck with commercials.

I guess I don't have much a choice.

I saw it... and man... was it terrible. Laughably terrible... but maybe that was the point. Joss says that Buffy is influenced by old horror movie... most of which are good, if only for the fact that they are laughably bad.

Getting back to the article... it doesn't really make sense. At first it says that Canadian jaws dropped when they saw the preview, but that the pilot sucked terribly. It also mentioned the WB Network... a net that has *no* relation to the creation of Firefly. Someone has some issues with details!
