CA, where I live, has a long history of devastating forest fires, and their causes are almost always lightning strikes, downed power lines, regular arsonists, and human stupidity.
In the case of the fire nearest me (Bobcat Fire), apparently some stupid people had lit a campfire to "read the smoke" (believers in santeria, I was told) to see what sex their unborn baby was (I guess they couldn't afford an ultrasound). Other past human causes have included such things as "gender reveal" videos gone wrong, welding work, grinding work (sparks), illegal campfires, car fires, "back fires" gone out of control etc. Yanno, people being stupid and careless in a tinderbox when the wind is blowing like a bellows.
