What your data shows is that some Republicans have decided to call themselves "Independents", but I suspect the newest "Independents" keep voting for Republicans.
So, let me just state the obvious.
Between Kennedy and Obama, republican party affiliation wandered between 21-32%, hitting a low at Ford and Carter, and a high at Reagan through Bush the Deux, but staying within a narrow range of 25 +/-5.
But democrats dropped from a high at Kennedy of 51 to a low at Reagan of 34, then dropping further to 31 during Bush the Elder, from which they never recovered by 2014.

So what does your post have to do with the fact that DEMOCRATS have lost 40% of their support in counties, states, and Congress over the decades?

Blacks are racist. They'll vote for a black person, no matter how much that person might be against their interests. Remember Clarence Thomas? Not that blacks could vote for Justice Thomas, but in the opinion polls at the time they supported his confirmation despite the fact that he was against affirmative action and that he was a sexual harasser.

One thing I heard discussed was that with mail-in voting, many people will be able to vote before the debates, making Biden's debate performance irrelevant.
