A remarkable and nightmarish scene playing out in Portland should terrify anyone who cares about the US constitution

It's pointless debating completely unsupported speculation.
If a man walks into a convenience store carrying a gun, it is "unsupported speculation" that he will rob the cashier, until he points the gun. Trump has a gun and has been shouting, while in the store's parking lot, about using it to rob the store:
It is the late evening of Nov. 3, 2020—Election Day. The race is tight. It’s come down to the three states that President Donald Trump barely won in 2016: Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Most in-person votes have been counted, and Trump holds a small lead in each state. But there are millions of mail-in ballots that election officials have not yet processed. Hundreds of thousands of voters dropped their ballots in the mail days ago, but they haven’t been received. Meanwhile, thousands of ballots that were mailed in time have been rejected due to alleged technical defects. The outcome of the election turns on all these outstanding votes. But Trump, on the basis of the results so far, declares victory and dismisses the remaining mail-in ballots as fraudulent and illegitimate. The Republican-controlled legislatures of all three states agree, assigning their electoral votes to the president. Trump has secured a second term in the White House.
This scenario is not paranoid or outlandish. It is now chillingly plausible. Trump has spent several months laying the groundwork to steal the 2020 election this way. He has tweeted that mail-in voting will make this “the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history.” Trump probably senses the vote count will not be completed on Election Day and seems to be seeding doubt before a single vote is cast. The Republican Party has largely backed the presidents’ schemes, and the courts have resisted intervening to protect voting rights. Three months out from Election Day, the nation appears to be barreling toward a crisis of Trump’s own design.

Trump has been shouting on Twitter since before he was elected.
And you fall for it every time.

Although every state now holds popular elections for the president, the Constitution grants state legislatures the power to appoint electors. The legislatures of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are all controlled by Republicans. These bodies could quickly pass resolutions declaring Trump the victor, then appoint electors who will cast their votes for him. This gambit has never been tested in court, but it is possible to imagine the Supreme Court’s conservatives permitting it as a valid exercise of state legislatures’ constitutional authority.

The colloquially-named Electoral College arises from Article II, Section 1, Clauses 2 and 3, which state that:
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress; but no Senator or Representative, or person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States shall be appointed an Elector. "In such Manner" gives a GOP controlled legislature complete freedom to steal a Presidential and Vice-Presidential election for Trump and Pence.

Quote:Trump can't steal an election because Nov 3rd hasn't yet arrived? Aren't you clever, 1kiki. Not being able to imagine difficulties until after disaster will cause catastrophes. See how the writers of the Constitution, with their very weak imaginations for future problems, screwed up the 1796 election followed by the 1800 election. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelfth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_C

We have no uniform national system for appointing Electors, which means the legislatures do not have to consult the public at all. When members of the Florida legislature in 2000 threatened to abandon the results of the statewide popular contest and appoint Electors for a particular candidate, the Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore (2000) appeared to endorse their power to do so by denying that citizens have a constitutional right to vote in presidential elections. As the majority put it, “The individual citizen has no federal constitutional right to vote for Electors for the President of the United States. . .” When it comes to presidential elections, the voters are at the mercy of the state legislatures.

And JACK's right. You don't give a damn about the Constitution. You'd throw it out in a heartbeat (why - just look at all the pages you spent whinging about the electoral college!) if you thought it meant a democrat would win.

What a Democrat cares about is the rules. Are you gonna follow them, or not? The Republicans I know talk about the Constitution all the time, but as for knowing what it means and following its rules, they're poor at that. Being weak at following rules certainly lowers their incomes and increases their personal difficulties unrelated to politics.
When Trump sends his police force to Portland in order to win an election, the Republicans I know applaud. Trump would still be in Portland if staying would win him votes with the "Independent" voters. When Trump and the GOP cheat on election day, I'm sure the Republicans I know will applaud.
Any amount of cheating is permissible, according to Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump:
Very excited to see @SeanHannity’s long awaited new book, 'Live Free or Die: America (and the World) on the Brink' which will be released on Tuesday, August 4th. Sean is a Great American Patriot. Make sure to get your copy today!

The book says We All Die If The Democrats Win. Trump made it clear he will cheat rather than lose to a Democrat. To lose is Death. The Constitution has no power to make him or any Trump voter honest when they fear / hate the Democrats so much:

As for me, I'm voting for the Democrat, but if Trump wins I win because I honestly follow the tax rules he signed into law. He and I will prosper greatly the next four years. Too bad you won't, but 6ix and 1kiki don't know the rules and couldn't exactly follow rules if they did know.

Yeah, Dems care about "the rules" .. except the ones restricting surveillance by the spook agencies, and the ones about conducting political prosecutions based on lies and entrapment, and the ones about using non-government servers for government business, and the ones that are supposed to prevent Star Chamber proceedings and maintaing secret "kill lists". You mean, like THOSE rules?
/snicker
I'll set the timeline even closer, SIX: We can throw this is SECOND's face when indictments start coming out, before the election.
