That show is awesome, by brother got one of his cook books for christmas, only a matter of time before I steal it.

Like the show--never looked at one of his cookbooks. but then, I've got more cookbooks than I know what to do with. I really enjoy explanatory nature of the show--he does a great job of talking through the how and why of a dish/recipe. i also like the mix of science and history background that gets thrown in. I think this is one of the best cooking shows around for actually teaching viewers about cooking, rather than presenting a single recipe or focusing on a host's personality rather than the food.
how are his cookbooks?

His cookbooks are realy good, it's like the show except even more detail. Like his baking book, before anything he explained about baking and the properties of yeast and stuff and the cooking utensils you will need and why, it's really indept and better than other plain recipe only book.

I've often described him as the bastard child of Mr. Wizard and Graham Kerr (the Galloping Gourmet)...with a heavy dash of my high school biology teacher thrown in (shh, I don't tell my husband about that....

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SHOW LEFT ON TV!!!!
i watch it pretty much everyday and i try to tape as much as i can! the DVD sets from food network are ridiculously expensive. anyway, like i said, it is the only show i watch on TV that is not in reruns. being a scientist, i guess it appeals to me because of the science behind his recipies and how he always explains WHY you do certain things. i love that. knowing why certain ingredients are required allows me to tinker more with recipes.
