A remarkable and nightmarish scene playing out in Portland should terrify anyone who cares about the US constitution

For whatever reason, Portland has become the turf on which a proxy battle is being fought by infiltrating groups with various agendas: Antifa, CHAZ, BLM, Boogaloo Boyz, 'large money political donors', and so forth.

And at the moment, the only voices that are being heard are the loudest and most violent, who are ALL pretending to represent the best interests of the people there.

Now, I'm sure there've been plenty of polls asking the citizens at large what they want for their own city, but nobody is publishing them. What DO Portlandians themselves want for their home of Portland? I dunno. Do you?

As to the use of USBP, as I posted AND LINKED above, the USBP 100mi generous area of authority has caused heartburn for both the left and right at various times. But there it still is, ready to be invoked.

From REAVERBOT'S link

Quote:

There will be time to sort out the legalities of the federal government’s actions. The attorney general of Oregon has filed suit against various federal agencies and officers involved in one arrest, arguing, “Ordinarily, a person ... who is confronted by anonymous men in military-type fatigues and ordered into an unmarked van can reasonably assume that he is being kidnapped and is the victim of a crime.” The American Civil Liberties Union has also sued the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshals Service. The chairs of three House committees have requested an internal DHS investigation of the matter. Between these varied proceedings, the Trump administration will have to answer legal questions like whether it’s really okay for unidentified federal officers and agents to patrol streets, and whether an agency whose mission is to patrol the border is properly used without training for crowd control. The administration will also have to justify the propriety of the individual arrests both in any prosecutions of those detained and in any civil suits filed.

But let’s leave the legalities aside for now.

Why would an author, who is hand-wringing about "rule of law", want to set aside discussion of legality?

Probably because author has run down the legalities as well, and has a pretty good suspicion that what DHS is purported to have done IS ENTIRELY LEGAL.

Indeed, from the same link...

The existence of the department’s authority to protect federal property is uncontroversial. The federal government has the power to defend federal buildings and facilities from civil unrest, and a variety of federal laws protect federal property from attack and vandalism and federal officials from interference with their discharge of the government’s business.

I can't stress enough that an arrest is an arrest, whether it's from uniformed police in a marked car, plainclothes officers in an unmarked car, or officers in fatigues in an unmarked van.

They aren't waving arrest warrants in the air, so nobody knows whether there is a warrant or not. You're read your rights and shoved into a vehicle. You're taken to some sort of detention center and booked. You can be held for 48 hours without charges. You can call your lawyer.

Quote:

While this authority certainly extends to the power to investigate federal crimes and arrest those suspected of them, it is not some general authority to patrol the downtowns of major cities and pick up and detain protesters merely because a federal building may be in the neighborhood.
If someone is arrested and charged, the charges won't read "Because s/he was in the neighborhood of a federal building". DHS apparently has it's own intelligence, there should be specific charges attached.

But nobody seems to know who was arrested or what for. There are no names attached to the stories. By now, the process has unfolded and the person(s) have been charged or released. The person's lawyer would have made the arrest and charges public if they felt it beneficial for their client, and any person who was released is free to go to the media.

If that's not what has happened, then it deserves some serious charges against those who made the arrests, because they didn't follow procedure. But the rest is all optics.

*****

If people don't like the laws, the CHANGE THE LAWS. These laws are made and passed by Congress and State Legislatures and reviewed by the courts.

MAYBE NEXT TIME PEOPLE WILL PAY MORE ATTENTION WHEN LAWS LIKE THE SO-CALLED "PATRIOT ACT" ARE PASSED.

So far, it sounds like vaporware.

All this guy did was ask if the feds believed the constitution they swore to uphold permitted what they were doing. Look how they responded to this vet. This comrade sig, this is what reaver is warning us of.

Stupid people don't know they're stupid, and they certainly don't realize how obvious it is to others.

lol

That's a false flag video. Either that, or dude wearing the NAVY shirt is a T-1000.

Seriously dude. Are you stupid?

Guy gets wacked with a skull crusher, used two-handed, and the only protection he has is a cotton sweater? Then he gets maced in the face and doesn't even flinch. THEN he walks away and gives two middle fingers?

Guy would have zero use of his arm and he'd have been balled up on the street crying until the paramedics came.

You little LARPing revolutionaries have obviously never had your asses kicked before and have no idea how pain and broken bones work.

Two DHS Officials Apparently Just Admitted Their Troops Have Been Violating the Constitution

Wolf told Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Tuesday night. “Attacking federal police officers–law enforcement officers–which they have done for 52 nights in a row is a federal crime. So, the Department, because we don’t have that local support, that local law enforcement support, we are having to go out and proactively arrest individuals and we need to do that because we need to hold them accountable.”

Anticipatory arrests, of course, are prohibited under the U.S. Constitution.

How is this NOT fascism? Someone please explain.

The NRA spent decades scaring Americans into buying their products to use if the government ever sent "jack-booted thugs" to "attack, harass, intimidate law-abiding citizens" and "take away our constitutional rights."

OK, NRA. Now that it's happening across the US, are you saying it's go time?

The NRA has also spent decades claiming that nobody to the left of Pinochet is "law-abiding" so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I mean, just read the rhetoric these mouth-breathing wing nuts are using. BLM protesters are "terrorists", "thugs", "insurgents". It's all there in the conservative subs and all over orange man's twit feed. They've literally stated that people protesting for policing reform are calling for the complete destruction of the United States, and that graffiti being sprayed on a building is a heinous enough crime to justify the deployment of 100's of unidentified officers, illegal detainment, and the employment of riot control measures like tear-gas on unarmed crowds.

It's a cult, and the NRA is a big part of it. They helped launder Russia's money for the Republican party. Don't expect rationality or a sense of their own hypocrisy to move them.

YOU'RE A CULT MEMEBER, REAVERBOT.

You say the stupidest and most treasonous things!

Instead of frothing over what other people say, why don't you pay attention to the lies and hyperbole running out of your own keyboard?

Yanno, add some sanity to the discussion instead of agitating for revolution.
