I heard there used to be one within walking distance of me 30 years ago. But they turned it into a strip mall. One of the two largest stores shut down 15 years ago and has been empty since. The other one shut down 2 years ago and still remains empty. Even the smaller theater that used to be there was closed before I moved here and remains empty. The only things there now are a dollar store and a Payday loan type place. The parking lot is among the worst I've ever seen.

Sure wish that was a drive in now. I'd probably go there all the time. Especially if they started showing old movies I never got a chance to see in the theater.

I think it depends on their upbringing. I know my brother shows my niece movies like the original Ghostbusters and Goonies. She'll probably grow up with an appreciation for them.

I think it's actually easier with this generation to show them if you wanted to. When I was growing up, most of the "classics" were black and white, and growing up in a full-color MTV world I just didn't want to sit through old-timey black and white flicks as a kid.

What's even cooler is that kids get to see movies like The Goonies in far better quality than my bros and I got to watch it on our tiny little tube TVs. It's pretty awesome that for the last 40 or so years most of the master copies were preserved well and making HD remasters of those flicks is pretty easy to do.

Looks like my idea is catching on. I didn't even know that Ghostbusters (1984) had been showing in 622 theaters, did you?

Bummer though. Only 6 states are showing it right now, and I'm not about to take a drive out to Michigan or Ohio to see it.

It seems like a fairly successful market test though, considering a lot of theaters aren't allowed to open at max capacity and people's behaviors have undoubtedly been changed by now. And the fact that probably almost nobody is even aware they're doing it.

Maybe they should actually do a little bit of marketing with this.

It would be silly for them to spend a ton of money advertising each classic flick via traditional means since that would eat up a bulk of any profits gained, but maybe an internet campaign via social media to raise awareness of theaters bringing them back to the theater for new generations to see for the first time on the big screen.

Maybe a website dedicated to the campaign, with the ability for fans of old movies to vote on which movie they'd like to see released next?

With so many of these movies having been remastered from original prints that were much better than the original theater experience and what we could see on our tube TVs as kids, I think it could be wildly successful if done right.

We finally have one theater opening this Friday, and then another next Friday.

Looks like Euphoria is being rereleased,
I didn't find it last year, so be nice to catch it now.

Inception: 10 year event might be interesting, in case they added some extra goodies to it.
And Empire Strikes Back. I might hold my breath at the likelihood of the CGI being screwed up with Jabba, and try to catch that. Hopefully Disney hasn't botched that as well. Oh, wait....Successful film, yep they are certain to have botched it. But I'll try anyhow.
