Now do you feel shame? We're talking about ass-biting here...

Legally, it's not. Ethically it's not. Morally it's not. The Senate republicans will do it nonetheless.

If Cipollone really was in the room with Trump while he discussed a corrupt scheme, as Bolton contends, and the lawyer knows the president withheld foreign aid to Ukraine to force an investigation of his political rival former vice president Joe Biden, a 2020 presidential contender, that would be highly problematic. For one thing, it would mean he lied his way through the American trial of the century to protect not only the president but himself.

This trial is hardly the trial of the century. The ratings are all the proof you need of that.

There were 17 witnesses. No crimes were committed as per the testimony of 17 witnesses.

I posted this in the other thread but I think it belongs here.

House Dems fucked up. They were in control of the timing and the witness lists ... it was up the THEM to do the investigation, not the Senate. According to someone who was part of the process, they pulled the plug on the process too early, wanting to vote before Xmas (and then illogically waiting to deliver the results to the Senate for another month) but if they had waited another month or two they would have been able to get other key witnesses, like Bolt-on, to testify.

Nancy may be a lot of things, but "stupid" isn't one of them. I think she bonked this on purpose because SHE didn't want a full investigation. So she handed the Senate such a bag of shit that the Senate could easily reject it. That way she satisfies the "posse", manages some political theater, protects Dems from body-cavity searches, and then blames the Senate Republicans. And the Senate Republicans also get to continue to hide their own skeletons in their own closets.

One hand washes another: NOBODY wanted this investigated except maybe a few hot-blooded House Dems who clearly aren't plugged into the gravy train and don't know who's greasing who.

I hate to be such a cynic, but that DOES explain the weird shit that went on.

Signym, you are a fucking moron. You never stop misunderstanding what happened and what it means because you talk too much: Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Marco Rubio (R- Fla.) were the first out of the block to explain that the president is guilty but shouldn’t be ousted for it….In his statement, [Alexander] said the House managers “have proved [the charges] with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’” In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Alexander dismissed the need for more witnesses. “If you have eight witnesses who say someone left the scene of an accident, why do you need nine? I mean, the question for me was: Do I need more evidence to conclude that the president did what he did? And I concluded no.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) agreed with Alexander’s position, telling reporters that he speaks for “lots and lots of us.” I somehow doubt there will be a torrent of outrage from Trump World at all of these senators (one never knows with Trump himself) who finally brought themselves to admit the emperor was naked all along.

I don’t doubt this. Now that acquittal is a sure thing, it’s become safe to quietly admit that Trump was guilty all along. The modern GOP is just chock full of profiles in courage.

For myself, I would have been satisfied if this had been the party line all along and Mitch McConnell had engineered a vote of, say, 62-38 for impeachment. This would have meant that Republicans could keep their president, but it also would have sent a clear message that this kind of behavior was bad enough that Trump had only barely survived.

But instead Trump demanded, and Republicans delivered, a complete and utter demonstration of fealty, and that meant a complete and utter defense of Trump’s actions. And this in turn has opened the door for future presidents to demand personal favors in return for official actions. When that happens, Republicans will have no one to blame but themselves.

My threshold for convicting someone is always the same: Evidence. Not third-hand gossip. It doesn't matter if it's Hillary, Russians, Bidens, Trump, Obama, Pelosi, or whoever. The House did not deliver evidence. NONE of their witnesses "saw, heard, or did" anything from Trump directly; it was a game of "gossip" all the way around from biased deep-staters.

Now, according to Turley, they COULD have waited a couple of months and gotten real probative testimony, so why didn't they?

I honestly suspect collusion between Pelosi and McConnell,

*****

Post-impeachment, Trump's approval rating is now the highest it's ever been, moving up not only among Republicans but also independents.
The Dems have only themselves to blame.

They have run on throwing one fake allegation after another at Trump, and altho they've managed to fire up their base they've ruined their own credibility in everyone else's view.

Between that and the DNC's reliance on identity politics and its obvious attempts to torpedo Sanders' nomination, they're showing themselves as a party devoid of ... AFRAID of ... new ideas. I think they're as corrupt as the RNC, and even more reliant on Wall Street and transnational approval for their candidates.

When is the DNC going to reform itself? Never, IMHO.

Second is just mad that he was wrong again. I suspect that is why despite tomorrow being the big day, there is very little activity in here today. You know full well T would be putting pictures and smug little emoticons everywhere if he were in a better mood.
