It's nothing new to see an aggregate of polls bounce back and forth over time. But today I was looking at the Impeach/Remove polling aggregate at RCP and I was a little confused. After seeing the large difference in favor of "NO" over "YES" around Christmas time, I expected to see that some of the polling itself had swung the other way.
But that's not the case...

Every one of the current polls that are included in the aggregate number are either better for Trump or tied with the previous poll that was put out when he had the high numbers.
So... what's different then?
Monmouth and Gallup (among others) aren't currently included. Monmouth was +7 NO and Gallup was +5 NO.
In the time since either of them have done their last polls, Politico has submitted 4 polls (9 YES, 7 YES, 9 YES, 8 YES currently), and the Economist has submitted 5 (4 YES, 8 YES, 3 YES, 4 YES, 3 YES currently).
POLLS THAT AREN'T CURRENTLY INCLUDED (Last poll taken vs previous poll):
Monmouth - 7 NO currently [Not in Aggregate], (7 NO previous poll) = No Change
Gallup - 5 NO currently [Not in Aggregate], (2 NO previous poll) = +3 for Trump
IBD/TPP - TIE, (Their only poll on record was 12/5 - 12/14... nothing to compare) = No Change
Selzer - 2 NO, (Their only poll on record was 10/17 - 10/23... nothing to compare) = No Change... but +2 for Trump not currently included assuming no change.
POLLS THAT ARE CURRENTLY INCLUDED, COMPARED TO THEIR PREVIOUS POLL:
Economist - 3 NO Currently, (NO 4 previous poll) = +1 for Trump
Politco - 8 NO Currently, (NO 9 previous poll) = +1 for Trump
NBC/WSJ - TIE Currently, (YES 3 previous poll) = +3 for Trump
CNN - 3 NO Currently, (YES 5 previous poll) = +3 for Trump
Quinnipiac - 6 NO Currently, (NO 6 previous poll) = No Change
ABC/WP - TIE Currently, (YES 5 previous poll) = +5 for Trump
USA Today - 5 NO Currently, (NO 1 previous poll) = +4 for Trump
NPR/PBS - 3 NO Currently, (TIE previous poll) = +3 for Trump
FOX News - 4 YES Currently, (YES 4 previous poll) = No change
So, of the 9 regularly updated and counted polls, the swing in favor has been overall huge for Trump, even if it's not currently reflected in the polling aggregate since Monmouth and Gallup have aged off and have not been updated.
I'm not going to suggest that Monmouth and Gallup change their methodology or the way they conduct their polls, however, because even Nate silver gives them an A+ and B grade, respectively. But I think the formula for the aggregate needs to be changed to better reflect the polls that RCP is choosing to aggregate to better reflect the actual numbers here. If you look at the current graph, it would indicate that between Christmas Day and today the support for Impeachment has grown while support for Trump has gone down, when this clearly isn't the case and the exact opposite is true here.
EDITED TO ADD:
Current spread according to RCP = NO +0.2
The actual number would be 0.22222222 (to infinity), so it has been rounded down. (15 YES, 17 NO = 2 NO / 9 Polls = 0.2222222
But add in Monmouth +7 NO and Gallup +5 NO which has aged off since Christmas and you get a much different story than the graph presents.
(15 YES, 29 NO = 14 NO / 11 Polls = NO 1.272727 (to infinity).
So, rounding up as RCP would, this would be +1.3 NO for the Impeach/Remove question, which is the highest in Trump's favor since the polling started by 0.2 points.
Compare that number to October 1st (the very first day of the polling aggregate) when support for Impeachment was +4.6 against Trump, or on October 21st when the aggregate was peak for impeachment and showed nearly 50 percent of Americans supported impeachment and the aggregate was +4.7 against Trump.
Long story short, support for Trump is just as high today as it was two weeks ago at its peak and possibly even higher than that.
