BC is tabling legislation to leave BC on daylight savings time permanently. Most of the province wants this and I agree.

I hope it goes through, Brenda! At least someone will be showing some sense!
As for me, I find waiting out the extreme fire risk is wearing. I feel I can't entirely relax - that I have to keep one eye open and one ear cocked all the time. With any luck the winds'll be gone by the end of tomorrow.
I'm finishing preparing my beef, potato and green chili stew. After that I'll be cooking chicken pot pie, but without the crust, since wheat really bothers me. So instead, I'll also add potatoes! I think it'll be really tasty.
Once that's done, I'll be back to being stocked up with a good supply of meals with big helpings of vegetables.

We've been ordering pizza, eating out or scrounging the kitchen the past four days. I have to say I like home-cooking better!
Today we had a long-delayed chicken and dumplings. tomorrow its going to be turkey half-breast with asparagus (on sale) and yam (on sale).
*****
I broke down and set up a humidifier in our room bc my nose is infernally stuffed with thsi dry air! Wunderground says Thu Fri and Sat still drier than normal, but Sat will be halfway back to normal so I hope my nose starts unstuffing soon.

Me too. I hate the clock changing and there is no reason in the world for it now.
Stay safe Kiki.
There are as of Tuesday this week 11 wildfires burning in Canada. 6 in my province of BC and 5 in Alberta.

We'll be back to rain in BC by Sunday. This afternoon you could see the clouds starting to roll in. Fog due tomorrow night for Halloween.

Nothing but solid rain here for 3 days straight, into snow tonight. Those poor kids. I don't think they're going to get any trick or treating done this year :(
Had another 1.5 inches in the last 48 hours, so it was a pretty decent test so far after the re-grading and filling in the sump pipe. Haven't been outside this morning to get another look at everything, but it looked fine yesterday.
I shortened the float mechanism so it's not going off when the water gets so high, but because of the nature of the corded floats that also means that it doesn't stay on as long either (about 21 seconds per cycle as opposed to 29 seconds before). The right way to do this is going to be to tear everything up to the check valve out, clean out the well and possibly dig it down further, cut all new pipes for the new length and try to get that pump at least 8" lower than it is right now.
No way I can even think to try that with the rain right now. Going to try to do that once everything is frozen outside and I don't have a steady flow of water to the basement.
In the mean time, it's never gone off for more than around 6+ minutes at a time whenever I've been paying attention. Not sure if that means anything though since this is 1.5 inches in around 48 hours this time compared to 2 inches in only 20 or so hours last time.
Do Right, Be Right. :)

Trivial compared to basement flooding and fire season but ... I shoulda set up that humidifier a month ago! For a change I managed to sleep for 5 hours straight without waking up bc I couldn't breathe.
You have to realize that I decongest my nose and rinse it with specially-compounded solution of mupirocin antibiotic plus budenoside steroid before bed, PLUS I use a nose strip, AND I use a HEPA filter in the bedroom AND we changed out carpets for hardwood AND I'm giving myself allergy shots, AND I had two sinuse surgeries! I'm doing everything I know to reduce my nasal congestion because it has been ruining my sleep for years. I STILL can't smell much of anything. Maybe the humidifier for Santa Ana conditions is the very last thing I need to finally get a reasonable night's sleep.

Glad to see you found something that might work. I don't know how you live with it.
Jeez... it's COLD today. Only a high of 34 here, and the snow was already started when I woke up. Certainly didn't see that in the forecast leading up to today.
Unfortunately, my friend hasn't made it back here this week to install the door, and I was waiting on him to help me get the plastic over the louvers as well. Didn't think that would be a problem, but we've had 2 days of rain and now snow.
I've been through quite a few heavy rains and thunderstorms with zero windows behind those louvers, but just as I suspected, snow has been where the damage was done on the front side of that porch. The wall is wet now. Not drenched, but it's taking on water. I put a little plastic solution from the inside at the bottom that negates most of that as a temporary measure, but it's not waterproof. There's no way I'm going to be able to make it waterproof until I do a solution from the outside, and there's no way I'm doing it in the snow and wind and 30 degree temps.
Not a good day here. :(
Do Right, Be Right. :)

!!But that makes me think your nose isn't responding to some allergen blowing in with the Santa Anas, it's actually responding to the dryness itself ... ?
