I can't imagine doing online shopping with a Windows PC, or even an Apple-based PC. Fortunately hubby knows a thing or three about PC security and he has our main PC buttoened up pretty tight. Plus we have Noscript, PrivacyBadger and other apps running. I've set Googletagmanager and Googleanalytics and Facebook and a few other scripts to permanently UNTRUSTED.

On my smart phone all of my family's phone numbers are under aliases. I never text anyone using their real name in the text because ... what happens if my phone gets lost? Of course I never do online banking or email or purchases or homesecurity over such a loosey=goosey platform. It astonishes me when I see ppl checking their home security cameras over their phone, or swipe to purchase. Same thing with the tablet. Nothing important happens there. I read the news, chat with you guys, play music or listen to The Duran or Tom Luongo or whatever podcasts are interesting but that's it. Every now and again I go to my security settings and reset all of the "allowed" apps and sites just incase I let something reside as "trusted".

Anyway, speaking of important things, been busting ass trying to get ready for out of town vistors. The rest of the family has been sick but I've been plowing thru various rooms. Hubby has a crap-ton of PC parts most of which I can't imagine would ever be useful; I hope he picks thru them and sets aside parts for the next build plus some spare parts and junks the rest - all I could do was take them off the diningroom table (where they have been for a year) and box them up and dust. If he manages to go thru those boxes I see a lot of outgoing items. Also been sorring thru dear daughter's possessions ... it's a problem because she has a hoarding tendency and has a real emotional attachment to every single item. sigh.

But this is also open enrollment, and so I have to get going on health insurance things. birthday parties happened this month, and dd's favorite holdiy (Halloween) coming up, I have a lot to do!

I don't even care about this stuff anymore.

Credit cards cover fraud as long as you're watching them at least once a month, which I do. The one time it's ever happened to me, they let me know about the activity and asked if it was me.

Don't have any real money to steal...

I'm not an interesting person, so I'm not worried about anybody spying on me either.

Wasted a lot of time being paranoid about stuff like that when I was younger. In 2019, who hasn't been hacked? The sun still rises.

Well, I have to worry abut family members who are not competent, and overall try to protect assets which are being set aside for the future, so I guess I have a different set of worries. AFA the NSA or the FBI coming after me ... there is no way to protect yourself from a politically-motivated spook agency "investigation/ prosecution". As has been demonstrated by Flynn and Trump, they'll just make up shit if they want. But I'm a boring person anyway, so I don't worry too much about that.

Yeah. I know about that. My mom thought she had paid for Microsoft customer support back when they had a business. It's not fun trying to get somebody you care about to realize that they've been taken. Something similar almost happened again to them just recently. I hate that they're so far away and I can't babysit them.

You really don't have to worry about things financially though. There's a lot of security out there, and although none of it is bullet proof, they're really good about getting your money back to you. I couldn't say if they actually catch any of these people though, because when I've inquired about it in the past their go-to statements were along the lines of that's legal info I'm not privy to. I don't even know how true that is, or if that's just what the low level employees are told to say if they're asked, but I don't really care as long as I have my money.

You're safe as long as you're not clicking emails that go to fake sites that look like your financial sites, or you don't go giving out things on the phone like your social security number. Really, don't ever go to any sites with personal info required from email links, and instead go directly to the site in a separate tab.

I've been doing online banking for nearly 20 years now. It's easy, it's convenient, and overall it's so much better than the old way of doing things like driving to your insurance agent and hand delivering a check. I've only been "hacked" twice, and almost immediately the companies took care of it.

Oh... and if you have a VPN, dump it immediately.

I've been saying for over a year that one of two things happen if you sign up for one.

A) You're put on a government watch list with your actual name tied to the account. "What are you hiding that you need a VPN?" The government has access to whatever goes through a VPN at any time it requests it. There is no such thing as anonymous internet browsing.

B) You're opening yourself up to weak security at these firms and/or being scammed by the firms themselves and/or just adding an unnecessary 3rd party into the mix that has access to all of your online activity, as well as paying for something you don't need if you have Windows Defender, AVG Free, Malwarebytes all installed and properly updated.

"A" hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it eventually will. "B" however?

https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/21/nordvpn-confirms-it-was-hacked/

I see a lot of YouTube content creators I really enjoy shilling NordVPN and other VPN services all the time and I'm ALWAYS trying to tell them not to because their credibility will be destroyed. I've been doing that for at least a year. Then the Nord thing happens...

This guy just made the video two days ago I've been trying to tell people about for a year. I hope both content creators and the general public see it and heed his warnings.

Double post....

FFF.net seems to be falling apart these days. I'm constantly having problems getting pages to load over the last month or two.

I'm sure you're aware by now that those aren't real doctors and that the entire practice is under a lot of heat for not being real science, with a lot of people being injured and even some people dying. If not, you might want to google it.

Hope your guy or gal is a good one, Brenda.

I'm just dropping by to say hey all!

And despite the cooler temps, the air is still ridiculously dry, the winds are still blowing, and the red flag warning is still up.

Yes, I know about all of that about chiropractors. They've been investigated up here when the deaths happened.

I've been going to my guy for 25years.
