I got 2 separate important paperwork items done the day before yesterday, plus 1 not so important one, but it needed doing. Paperwork has always been a trial for me, because I always mess something up somewhere, no matter how hard I try. (The work-around I've come to is to ask for lots of help. Generally, my approach is to try and find someone on the phone or behind the counter and tell them I have no idea what I'm doing, so please point out to me what I should do, and where I should sign. For example, for one paperwork item I needed it notarized and to make sure it gets where it needs to go. So I spent a fair bit of time looking up what the UPS offers by way of tracking and signing. Here's the info. https://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/503.htm#ep1238627 OMFingG, it looks like it was lifted from some 40CFR section. So, after getting the papers notarized ... where do I need to sign, what do I need to do? and could I have copies of everything please? and how much will that be? and can I have a receipt please? ... I went to the PO and said ... how can I track this and make sure it gets there, please? where do I need to sign, what do I need to do? and could I have copies ... ... ...) Having got those 3 things done, my background agita is reduced somewhat.
And yesterday I didn't have any coffee, so along with feeling more relaxed, I spent most of the day sleeping! I'm still working on that sleep problem, which has been with me since I was very little - way before kindergarten as I recall.
And I probably could have slept all day today too, but I have a nice big pitcher of delicious and strong home-made cold-brewed coffee ready to go.
Having got that paperwork done, my focus/push/motivation (mostly focus - lining up what needs doing first, second, third ...) to do my big projects - even if a little bit at a time by cycling though the many projects that need doing - has fallen somewhat. So today I'm going to 1) have coffee, and 2) putter.
Whatever little things I see that need doing, generally more like daily and weekly tasks, I'll putter on those. I expect my day to be productive! just not be moving ahead on my projects.
But as long as I'm getting things done, it's all good!

Well, was dry when I left this morning but waiting for a bus to come back to my city it started raining AGAIN. Oh and it hasn't let up. It started around 1pm and it is now 3:30pm.
I got some Christmas decorations from a local Dollar Store and now I just have to get a tree to put them on. Local Walmart has some small ones for $19Canadian which with tax is a little over $20. So good price. Will get one.

Finally did that *explicit* drain!!!!
I'm lucky it didn't ruin the house. It's been broken since back in my drinking days. I forgot about it from back then. But I re-discovered the problem last spring. Didn't do anything about it then. Didn't do anything about it all summer long. Haven't been able to get my friend over to even finish the floor yet, let alone help me with this.
So I just bit the bullet, scared the shit out of myself, and finished it today.
The big reveal...
After finally digging it out, this was the mess I was dealing with. It was never attached with anything. It's clearly a broken pipe, and I'm lucky that I at least had a nub against the house to work with and it didn't shear off right up against the house.
VERY large crack, with at least 1/8" to 1/4" offset. Once it erodes the dirt away, you can see the hole (which was at least 2 1/2 feet deep) fill up to the top with water and slowly sink once the sump pump stops. I couldn't tell you how many gallons were spilled out every time the pump went off (or how much actually went back into the pipe and out to the street), but my guess would be that I was left with at least 3 gallons of water right up against my house every time the pump went off. Maybe more...
So.....
Has anyone ever tried cutting through a cast iron pipe with a metal cutting sawzall blade? Me either. Not fun.
Now I had to take this cut off to the big box store to fit my new parts. (In the mean time, throuought all of this, I had to go into the crawlspace and use a cup to fill a 2 gallon bucket and dump it out into my toilet to the wastewater drain 4 times. It hasn't rained here in a week, but that's just the ground water around here... which is even heavier I'm sure because I never get it all out to the street).
And we're done.... (sort of)....
Tightened the shit out of them, while also taking care not to break the straps. I have a habit of applying too much torque to things.
Ran it through a few laundry load cycles to make the pump go off. It still leaks, but not too much. Maybe 1/16 of a cup maximum every time the sump pump goes off. Nothing more than a faint dampness around the seams while leaving a steady stream of the kitchen sink faucet for 10 minutes.
Would prefer if it didn't leak at all, of course, but we're not exactly working with new pipes here. The iron was rusted to hell on the outside and pretty oblong and impossible to seal up completely. But as long as nothing breaks here I can't imagine it's going to be pulling dirt down into itself anymore. It's 1000% better than it was before.
I'm going to see if my friend has any further suggestions when he comes to help finish the porch. If anybody here has any ideas, feel free to let me know.

Yup. Fine over here Sigs. Went to visit my bro with my Dad for a few days. Was nice to get the house out of my mind for a while. Back at it now though.

Could be but with that rain also comes wind. Got a bit Thursday morning and there will be more.
Think I mentioned that we had a bad, bad wind storm up here last December that destroyed part of a pier. That pier was reopened over the summer after being repaired. The city used concrete then over the next year the rest of the pier will be replaced with concrete to prevent the rest of it from being destroyed.
