No need to apologise Merz, you've cleared things right up for me. Thanks.

OK Gunrunners, Hitchers, and Chimerians - Here is New Hokkaido in a nutshell. It is intended to give you room to be creative while giving you a framework in which to work. You might want to be a little specific as to your location, but feel to make up names and descriptions to suit yourself, there is room for much there. If you are together, decide on your location and please don't confuse one another .

If you have specific questions please ask me or Capn Rahn and we will do our best.

Here is your world - have fun.

New Hokkaido

New Hokkaido is one of the Terraformed Moons. Once it was made habitable, it was discovered to have nearly the most perfect climate across it’s entire surface. That being the case, instead of becoming a place to dump immigrants to sink or swim, it became a place to build places for people to come and have fun, and spend money. Consequently it is one of the most lavish and entertaining places around. Recently it has come under Alliance backing as well and while it was patrolled and safe before (tourists needing to be kept safe to spend their coin after all) it is currently extremely well policed throughout the urban areas. Things are a bit looser on the continent set aside to grow crops and cattle to feed the hoards in the city areas. There are fish farms and some specialty/luxury crops grown as well – New Hokkaido is attempting to be as self-sufficient as their climate and setup will allow them. In this area as well, working cattle ranches have spawned a return to the “Dude Ranch” where wealthy city folk can get down and dirty and play cowboy for a time.

The major spaceport is located on the largest continent. Here also is the largest city, housing the elite Alliance presence, the local government bigwigs, and a large, popular Companion house. This being a newly constructed area it is clean, well patrolled, virtually crime free and has no real slum areas at all. Tourists, local business men and the necessary day to day functions to support them are in an older settlement at least 20 miles away, such peons as are needed to provide comforts to the elite commute from there. Somewhere between these two extremes is a lovely area of nice hotels and spas, courtesy of a hot spring. Here is the Greentree Spa, and here also is the UBA Tournament – The United Billiards Association has located their annual tournament on New Hokkaido this year and it is starting in a very few days. Every day sees more and more ships coming in, loaded with Players and their groupies, Gamblers and other followers of the high-stakes sporting world. The Press Corp has one whole hotel to themselves (and a good job to, a most annoying bunch.)

The biggest draw to New Hokkaido is the Re-Inact Faire. Originally and loosely based on a long-tradition of re-inactions of battles from Earth-that-Was, it has since grown into a multi-cultural celebration of all that was Earth-that-Was. Many eras, traditions, cultures, are represented side-by-side here - along with anything that could be thought up to support them. Clothing booths to supply you with period outfits for whatever section you are visiting, food, drink, music and other entertainment appropriate to the locale … the battlegrounds are surrounded by reproductions of the eras in which they took place. New sections are added on each year, new cultures, new battles; an ever changing kaleidoscope of human endeavor.

Given time, and a map, one can find just about anything here – inside the grounds the locals who run this place police their own areas, and very well too. Not much escapes their notice, as whole families have inhabited the same areas for years, producing the next generation of re-inacktors and support functions. Catching a thief, murderer or rapist by whatever means is grounds for a reward from the fair-wards rather than punishment, and will probably continue to be so until such time as the Alliance gets around to messing it up.

But outside the actual Faire the surrounding area is where the vices can be found, and again

Shiny! Thanks again Merz. A possible scenario for Graham Calbrax: he has come to New Hokkaido to visit the re-inact faire, which would obviously be of interest to him (did you have me in mind when you added that part?). More importantly, he has come to visit one of the re-inacktors, who shares his interest in Earth-that-was and has some information for him. But this re-inacktor has been arrested by the feds on trumped-up charges.
What do you think?

To clarify ... I was not going to intrude on the Adventures in Gunrunning thread ... I thought the Hitchers stuff was pretty much the same thing ...

I was under the impression that I was trying to while away the hours before the Dragonfly RP starts so I started this thread ... I thought New Hokkaido (sp) would be a meeting ground for Serenity to drop off whomever and we'd get the Dragonfly stuff going, eventually ... and the Serenity would sail through the stars again with the main crew and their band of merry Hitchers leaving our spin-off to start.

Not worried when the Dragonfly stuff starts .. hopefully, reasonably soon ... I think I developed Quentin in February 2004 thinking that in the Spring or Summer we'd have the Dragonfly RP start (I spent from May, June, July and into August in a hiatus from the net at home so I'm glad it didn't start then).

The other alternative I have to RP is if we get an independent Hitchers thread going I could pop Quentin into that ... and then into the Dragonfly game .. if thats what were doing with this Firefly RPG.

I posted awhile back I didn't want to pop Quentin into the Adventures in Gunrunning thread cause he was oriented towards the Dragonfly game and it might be confusing to put him in too early .. or something like that.

Hence I started this ooc thread

Feel free to give me a word what we're doing with Dragonfly .. cause if Quentin has to tag along with the Hitchers fer a bit so he can seamlessly end up in the Dragonfly campaign so be it

I think that sounds splendid. I am sure the Faire abounds with both historians and antiquities dealers, etc.

And there is a huge university there, concentrating on ancient history and such like that there, and craftsmen reproducing almost anything you can think of ;-)

There is bound to be someone there for you to have come to see. And I wish I could take credit for placing the Faire there for you, but it has been in place for months ... some of the earlier interludes for NiccoAllez place him there already.

See? This is what I meant. I don't recall that post, but that's to be no reflection on you at all. Ask anyone in the troupe, they'll tell you about my Swiss cheese memory. It's a pure miracle that I remember who Rowan is at all at this point.
