I think it's more a case of Trump being given a choice by a newly unshackled Erdogan: either ramp up US troop levels ASAP and engage in full-on war with Turkey (a NATO member), sacrifice them to superior numbers, or get out of the way.
1kiki, you noticed that Turkey took steps so that it cannot be pushed around by America. But Trump did not take steps so that he cannot be pushed around by Turkey. Trump left his money where Turkey could take it all away from him. That is impeachable stupidity by Trump.

I said I think SWIFT was the last remaining pressure point on Erdogan. And Turkey leaving SWIFT at the end of August was it slipping the last rein holding it in. 3) Get your roughly 50 troops out of the way.
4) Ramp up your entire military for full-on war with Turkey.
