The true success of this film has everything to do with Joaquin Phoenix’s masterful performance.

Phoenix is acting so hard you can feel the desperation throbbing in his veins. He leaves you wanting to start him a GoFundMe, so he won’t have to pour so much sweat into his job again. But the aggressive terribleness of his performance isn’t completely his fault. (He has often been, and generally remains, a superb actor. Just not here.) Director Todd Phillips — who made frat-boy comedies like Road Trip and Old School before graduating to dude-bro comedies like The Hangover movies — bears at least some of the blame, and the aggressive and possibly irresponsible idiocy of Joker overall is his alone to answer for. Phillips may want us to think he’s giving us a movie all about the emptiness of our culture, but really, he’s just offering a prime example of it.

The stunning display of dishonesty by CNN's reviewer and the outright lies make me question if he even saw the movie at all.
With out dabbing into specifics or spoilers, almost the exact opposite of what Jeff Yang claims was in this movie was what everyone else witnessed. That, and the parts he clearly made up out of thin air and appeared no where in the movie.
Just freakin' bizarro stuff by CNN and the ' woke ' MSM.

I'm glad I talked to you about it and found out from you that it wasn't torture porn.
I went to see it last night. That was one of the most amazing things I'd ever seen. My first words after it was over was "I'm exhausted".
I disagree with anyone who says the movie was boring until the last half hour. Phoenix's performance here was more powerful than any acting I've ever witnessed in my life.
I haven't even been able to process the intellectual ideas of the movie yet since I still haven't even gotten over the visceral sensation of experiencing it, nearly 24 hours after the fact. I couldn't possibly say anything like "it was the best movie I've ever seen", because I have yet to really even begin to digest the movie itself or any of the ideas presented.
That being said, however, consider me extremely impressed... especially coming from a genre of movies that I don't really care for at all (comic book movies). You get to be 40 years old and start thinking that you've already seen everything under the sun and then something like this smacks you up-side the head.
