Honestly, I doubt there are few, if any here, who were around when Godzilla was ' state of the art ' FX for monster movies.

When you're a kid, a real little tyke, guys in rubber monster suits stomping on cardboard model towns is just fine. Sad thing is, that doesn't age very well as the years go by. Nor do the stories. Ack !

I remember when Godzilla vs Hedorah ( The Smog Monster ) came to the drive in, and some how I convinced my folks to take us. Or they convinced me... looking back, what an awful movie. Parts of it gave me nightmares... I think it was the first time I'd seen living people turned into human skeletons.

Thanks mom and dad.

lol... well, the movies my parents let me watch many years before I first saw a Godzilla flick probably ruined any of that magic for me.

I remember watching Poltergeist with my folks before they divorced, so I must have only been like 4 years old at the time. I remember having a huge crush on Carol Ann. I saw The Thing with my old man when I was around 6. I was probably the same age when I saw Aliens with my mom and I remember having to sleep in her bed that night and she had to rub my belly because I was convinced an alien was going to pop out of it.

By the time I saw a Godzilla movie with my old man, I had to be 9 or 10. Poltergeist, The Thing, and Aliens' special effects were so good for their time that they still hold up well today. When I finally saw Godzilla I was like "WTF is this? A drama club play or something?"

Do Right, Be Right. :)

So I decided to do a rare 2nd viewing, and I liked it even more.

Still, the movie isn't with out its flaws, story wise, but they're pretty minor.

As I remember them, chronologically...

- landing of the Osprey at the Monarch station , out in the ocean. Why not just land it normal like on the heli-pad, THEN have the whole platform drop down to the lower level ? Why make the pilot fly down 100 + foot shaft, allowing for exactly no room for error w/ the blades just mere feet away from the sides of the shaft ? Silly.

- @ the base where Monster Zero is kept, why are the duel elevators right NEXT to the frozen monster ? Seems when ice starts falling and everything is breaking, the one way out of danger is next to the gigantic titan ? Poor design flaw.

- Dr Vivienne Graham's death... It happened so fast, I actually missed it the 1st time.

- I get that the Oxygen destroyer took out Godzilla initially, but after that, can't the G-Man fight his own fights ? Brody Ford saves him in 2014 by torching the Muto eggs. Dr Serizawa sacrifices himself , and then so does Mothra, and even charged up and added life force, Ghidorah is STILL chewing on Godzilla and he's not fighting back. Dude's about spent.

* Or is he ?

Why land at the freaking feet of 2 giant titans when trying to find ONE little girl ? I get it, you want to save her, but hell, don't put your escape vehicle right in the middle of a kaiju wrasslin' match. It's liable to get stomped on, which is EXACTLY what happened !

- The Orca. I get it, nice MacGuffin for the movie, but hell, something as fragile as an x-Box that gets smashed shouldn't be so easily repaired, in the rain , with no specialized tools to speak of , on the fly, JUST so you can save Godzilla / the entire planet. I think that could have been better thought out.

- At first I thought Dr. Emma Russel was sacrificing herself needlessly by not walking the 25 yards or so to get in the Monarch Osprey with the rest of her family. Hell, EVERYONE was in harm's way. I get it, give them time to escape while Ghidorah goes after her, as SHE distracts Ghidorah to stop chewing on Godzilla.

*So here's the kicker... Godzilla is " a ticking time bomb ". He's about to go nuclear anyway. Like when Rogue THOUGHT she saved Wolverine's life at the bar, maybe Godzilla was gonna smoke Ghidorah one way or another. It really didn't matter.

All that said, I loved the demise of Ghidorah. Literally eating the head as it tries in vain to escape, and then blasting it into oblivion... Truly loved the brutality of Godzilla, once he got back on his feet.

Worth the price of admission.

Putting this here because , save for a couple of movie posters, it's already at the end of August and we've yet to see ANYTHING promoting Godzilla vs Kong.

KOTM came out at the end of May. Our first trailer for that movie was some 10 months prior, in July 2018.

G v K is still slated to come out ' Spring ' 2020. Which technically means before June 21st. TBH, many said back last year and leading up to KOTM that too MUCH of the movie had been shown via trailers. Now the thinking is , I suspect, less is more ?

Best guess is that we won't get any actual trailers until October, prior to the new Joker movie, which is also a WB production.

Didn't realize it at first, but I stumbled into a bit of future telling with this little scene description.

Godzilla and another kaiju
Fighting in water.
Godzilla decapitates head from kaiju...

No way I could have seen that kaiju being Ghidorah, and having 3 freaking heads. Nor did I expect them to use the oxygen destroyer either. '

I missed my calling. Oh well.

They soon see to what the arm belongs … it's the arm of Godzilla , and he's looking for more heads to take !

This right here is just one of the many reasons they need to get their shit together.

Plenty of people would have been happy to pay to have a BluRay or digital copy of Godzilla Minus One by now, but by the time September rolls around half the people who would have bought it will have forgotten about it and half of the rest of them already downloaded it.

There are too many different rules between different copyright holders and they're always changing hands. This is why Sony removed thousands of TV shows and movies that people had paid for recently from their Playstation libraries, screwing them out of countless dollars in the process and offering them nothing in return for stealing the product that they paid for.

I already tuned out years ago and decided that I will never pay to watch any of these things again because they don't make much worth watching, but I'll tell you for sure that if I had a massive library of content I paid for to view at any time on my Playstation and one day it was all deleted remotely from their end because they no longer had the copyrights to show any of them and they didn't give me a dime of that money back, I would be an entertainment pirate for the rest of my life.

I think all the Hollywood executives need to be purged and replaced with more competent people. It's very clear that they have no idea what they're doing anymore.

I thought that Universal had figured it out, but after the $200 Million Twisters movie comes out and fails hard and loses them at least another $100 Million, they're going to start the year off over $250 Million in the hole. And they're not even forcing DEI agendas... This is just pure incompetence.

Don't even get me started on Sony.

Disney, somehow, is the only studio in 2024 that seems to have been learning a lesson. They're just simply refusing to play right now. And when you had a prior year with about a dozen flops and only one successful movie, that's probably the best move you can make until you regroup and figure out just how the hell you're going to make money going forward.
