Firefly Conversion Help

I've found converting people to Firefly fans to be semi-difficult. Usually the hard part is to get them to actually sit down and watch the show though. The first 3 people I got to that stage became fans no problem. Usually it takes until Shindig to really set in though.
Now I've tried with two people and it's just not working. They talk through every episode and miss all the funny parts and plot points and then rip on the show because they think it makes no sense. I finally got them to Shindig and that failed miserably. They thought it was one of the worst episodes because there was no killing. Are there some people just not made for Firefly? Are my friends actually FOX executives? Is there some technique I should use? How do I get them to sit down and actually watch rather than talk the whole time (any preschool teachers out there?)?
Any help would be great cause I'm ready to give up on these two.

Obviously, your friends are die-hard followers of the New Evil, which is also known to many as "Reality Television." Persons who follow this heinous path are incapable of following a plot, incapable of seeing character development, and incapable of more than 10 lines of dialogue between commercial breaks.
My advice to you is, try one last time, smacking them about the head every time their attention wanders. If this doesn't work, turn on FOX and walk away, because they've obviously been lost...

Well, when it comes to converting people to shows that you like, it helps if the person you're converting is into the same kind of stuff. If the two nuts that are hard to crack arn't sci-fi fans, then they'll be tougher. But the way I figured out how to convert someone green is through small portions.
For example, there is a girl I sit next to in Art History class. I strike up a conversation with her and casually mention FIREFLY and even quote some dialouge from it (I used Wash's intro scene with the plastic dinosaurs). I rave about it and then tell her that I can bring it for her. I bring her the first disc in the set and say "Just watch the first few episodes of this. If you don't like it, fine. But if you do, I can bring some more." and just left it in her hands to discover the show. And I'm happy to say that she was converted, and I think a few of her roomies were as well.
It's the same policy that I use when I converted two of my roomates onto 24 (huge fan of the show, and it does have 3 FIREFLY links) and one of the two onto ARRESTE DEVELOPMENT.
But if they still are chatty folk, just tell them to shut up.
"NO HAI ES BANDAI. THERE IS....NO.....BAND. AND YET....WE HEAR A BAND."

I had leant out the first 2 disks when a friend came over. I wanted him to see some Firefly so I showed him "Out of Gas". He was hooked in the teaser!
He now insists that if I show Firefly to a new person, show em "Out of Gas" first. I think watching a later episode will dilute the suspence of the first episode (mainly Simon), but it just might hook the ones that are hard to catch.

I think if they want action, Shindig isn't the best place to start. In the pilot, Mal caps a horse and a federale` in the span of a few minutes.
Out of Gas is a great starter episode. It has everything: Sex! Violence! Natural disasters! Flashbacks! Reversals! Non-Linear Storytelling!
I actually didn't get into Firefly until Our Mrs. Reynolds, so it might take some people some time.

While Out of Gas is one of my favorites I think Shindig is a good early episode.
I have had these two watch the shows in order. How else can the "Kaylee's dead" joke really work for people? They just have a terrible attention span or something. For instance on Bushwacked the girl asked me what ever happened to the "cop guy" who was on the ship. I was like, "you mean the guy mal shot in the head? He got shot in the head". I mean how can you miss things like this? Granted it happened quickly but still.
Argh it's just so frustrating to find out there really are people who can't appreciate a good show like Firefly.

Whilst I agree that 'Out Of Gas' is one of the best episodes, I don't see how it could be considered a good 'starter' episode. You really need to 'know' the characters to appreciate a lot of the stuff in it.
To convert people who weren't grabbed by 'Serenity' or 'The Train Job', I agree with JAYNESTOWNCITIZEN. Try 'Our Mrs Reynolds'. Of course, I have no empirical evidence whatsoever to support this hypothesis.

These 2 will probably jump on the bandwagon when the movie is a huge blockbuster, and you can just sit and be smug.

But... Reality TV doesn't have any killing either!
(At least until the 72,544,816 ½ stories, novels and movies to predict reality shows with killing come true. And we all know they will.)
