You don't get to dismantle the Constitution without paying a hefty price.
Suck it up, buttercup.
But yeah, you're right. Nothing is going to change. At all. So the virtue signal here is wasted.

Mass shootings not caused by mental illness, experts
"Study after study has shown us that is simply not true. It’s actually more often the reverse," he said, in that people living with mental illness are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators.

Leave it to THUGR to quote a "mentally ill are victims" study. While it may be true that the mentally ill are often victims, the group to look at isn't the mentally ill as a whole, but mass murderers.
Son of Sam? Heard voices.
Sandy Hook shooter? Some undiagnosable problem, had been evaluated by MANY psychological professionals.
Same thing with James Holmes, the Colorado theater shooter, who had seen three mental health professionals shortly before shooting.
Jared Loughner (Gabby Gifford's shooter) heard voices.
Quote:
In 2018 the Federal Bureau of Investigation released a report titled “A Study of the Pre-Attack Behavior of Active Shooters in the United States Between 2008 and 2013.” It reported that 40% of the shooters had received a psychiatric diagnosis, and 70% had “mental health stressors” or “mental health concerning behaviors” before the attack.

40%! That's far and away a lot higher than the average population!
That's not to say that everyone who becomes a mass murderer is clinically mentally ill. Some people ... TWITCHY, REAVERBOT, SECONDRATE ... are what I call "ideologically possessed". They see the world and everyone in it as "my side" or "enemies".
I was going to get to that problem btw.
In one of the many intelligent discussions we used to have here, we were discussing the origins of mass violence - genocide (Rwanda was the specific topic, I think) but also cicil war, mass murder, war etc and we figured that the FIRST step towards mass violence is
dehumanization, followed by demonization.
So, what is "dehumanization"?
It's when you look at vast swaths of people as CATEGORIES ... Middle Easterners, "white men", black people, "fascists", etc. Demonization is when you respond to them as if they're all the same, tagging them with crimes and behaviors that exist mostly on your own head.
Blacks are lazy and victims of soft expectations.
White men are fascist incels.
Muslims are terror-loving jihadists.
Trump supporters are racist.
Liberals are big-gubmint libtards.
Instead of reacting to what ONE PERSON has done and handling it as a criminal matter , the ideologically-possessed person tags the entire "enemy of choice" category with the event. Look at WISHY, she wants to eradicate entire groups of people, she doesn't care if any of them has done anything wrong, she just wants to kill them. SECONDRATE hates the GOP with a passion, and suggests that a Trump assassination is a good middle ground. REAVERBOT has suggested that anyone that HE DEEMS is a "fascist" (and that could be anyone, given how loosely he thinks) deserves a thumping at the very least.
IMHO the only thing that justifies violence is self defense against actual violence. Not what you THINK "they" might do, but actual violence against yourself or others. Justice is not categorical, it is individual. Shootings etc are to be handled by the justice system, and not used as an excuse to get people all wound up and hating "them".
Hating "them" is sucker's game. It keeps us all divided and prevents us from improving our nation. The only way to deal with our problems is together, and the only way to do THAT is to have a national "brainstorming" session, where we first identify the problem and then figure out the solutions and priorities.
Coming together in a national conversation will take YEARS, but it's the only way forward, nothing else will move us thru this knot that we seem to be tied up in. Inevitably, people will disagree, but there will be points of agreement, we can move forward on those. It's like troubleshooting: you diagnose, try to fix, then assess the results and try again. All of this blamestorming and finger=pointing and name-calling is moving us backwrds, and it's moving us backwards fas

Capote portrays Smith’s slow drift from troubled childhood to murder, in a manner that blurs the line between agency and circumstance. But the crime itself evokes anger and moral revulsion, and that’s because we assume that even once all the external influences that made Smith who he was are taken into account, he still could have walked away without committing senseless murder. He chose not to, and he is to blame for that choice.
Determinism looks like it pulls the rug out from under the presumption that Smith could have walked away. The worry is that if the physical laws are deterministic, they leave no room whatsoever for any contingency about what will happen once the initial conditions of the universe are set. Smith was a product of a history that could only unfold in one way, as a matter of physical law, from its early origins. The facts of the early universe left no room for him to do anything but make the choices that he made. It’s not that people’s choices don’t make a difference to what they do; it’s that their choices are themselves fixed by facts that were in place long before they was conceived. When the NRA says “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people”, they mean to be pointing to the person holding the gun as the real locus of control, and the one responsible for the damage caused by a bullet, because the gun has no choice about what to do. The worry raised by determinism is that the person – no less than the gun – is but one part of the landscape the causal chain passes through. Maybe people don’t kill people either. Maybe the initial conditions of the universe do (although this would probably be no more consolation to the families of those recently shot in Texas and Ohio than is the NRA slogan).
www.the-tls.co.uk/articles/public/free-will-problem/
Rather than have endless discussions of Democrats vs Republicans about Determinism vs Freewill, just remove the guns and make the discussions moot. When the final answer from philosophers and physicists is known about which is true, Determinism or Freewill, maybe then you can add back the semi-automatic rifles to see what happens.

Makes as much sense as taking forks away from children because some of them will poke at others with them.
If "guns" were the problem then Switzerland would be in worse shape than we are. CLEARLY it's possible to have a lot of guns in society and not have dozens of mass shootings and general mayhem. Instead of taking guns way from the millions of responsible gun owners (like myself) who keep guns for self-protection, hunting, or hobby because of the 0.1% nutcases and 5% feral people, maybe we should fix our society instead. I think we would ALL be better off if we looked at less-violent societies and figured out what they were doing right and conversely what we're doing wrong.

Studio Cancels Release Of Elite-Liberals-Hunting-Trump-Supporters Movies
As we noted yesterday, it took several weekends of mass shootings for Universal Pictures to yank ads for (but not postpone, or cancel) an R-rated 'murder-porn' movie in which elite liberals hunt Trump supporters for sport.
"The same people who want you to give up the right to bear arms are the same people making movies about killing Trump supporters for sport," tweeted OANN Chief White House Correspondent Emerald Robinson.
"Did anyone see what our ratfucker-in-chief just did?" asks one character early in the screenplay for The Hunt - set to open Sept. 27.
"At least The Hunt's coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables," is the reply.
But, after furious backlash in the last few days, that has changed as The Hill reports that Universal Pictures says it is canceling the release of "The Hunt" following intense criticism on both sides of the aisle about the upcoming film.
"While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for 'The Hunt,' after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film," a Universal Pictures spokesperson told The Hill in a statement.
"We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."
Yeah, right.
After all of this blather about "irresponsible rhetoric" and "words have consequences", and political correctness up the yin-yang about which pronoun to call someone otherwise they might be "triggered", no comment about this movie?
Quote:Effing correct.
This decision followed President Trump's outburst against "racist" Hollywood on Friday, blaming popular culture for pushing "dangerous" movies.
"The movie coming out is made in order... to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others," Trump tweeted Friday.
"They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!"

As Daisy Luther noted, imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and “liberal snowflakes” were being hunted by a bunch of red-hat wearing rednecks. The media would go wild and reasonably so. But when conservatives are in the crosshairs? Crickets.
But Universal's decision to cancel release (for now), at least delays the inevitable surge in divisiveness and outrage that is coming as we head into an election cycle.
If you haven't noticed by now ... and if you haven't you're a brain-dead zombie ... the M$M is GOADING people into hating the "other side".
And anyone who buys into that ... and I mean Trump supporters as well as (neo)liberals ... is a dupe.
I have been asking this question for well over a year
What are our interests?
Not "women's, not "men's", not "POC" or "LGBTQ+" or "millenial's" or "baby boomer's" but OUR interests? What unites us rather than divides us? It's a question few have addressed.

Quote:You mentioned Switzerland. That country does nothing the way America does, including everything about gun commerce, ownership, licensing, background checks, mandatory military service. Everything in America is done the opposite of Switzerland.

"In Switzerland, gun ownership is high but mass shootings are low. Why?"

Even the so-called "high gun ownership" in Switzerland is different than America with 1.2 million guns per million people versus Switzerland's 275,000 guns per million. America would have to destroy a million guns for every million Americans to get down to Switzerland's numbers.
America would have to do everything Switzerland does, if it is to reduce gun deaths. America will do nothing Switzerland does. Why nothing? Just one explanation: “There’s no way Republicans are voting for a background check bill unless Trump comes out in favor of it for more than a couple hours. I’ve been to this rodeo before.” - SEN. CHRISTOPHER MURPHY, D-CONN. on gun measures to expect after mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio
What prevents America from becoming the Switzerland of low gun violence is one particular political party pandering to its gun owners who vote.
