I think Wash could maybe be Mercutio. Anyone use anything from A Midsummer's Night Dream? We just watched Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead in English yesturday. I love that movie!

You know, now that you mention it, I think Jayne would be Bottom from DREAM. I mean, he's an ass already, so why not make it official. If River can transform him in a fireball slinging psycho fairy, then I'm sure he could be a perfect donkey.
And you know what, you just answered my question about Inara. She'd obviously be Titania. And maybe there's a little Puck in River as well.
