Why would Trump wait to fire Sessions until the report was almost done? Wouldn't it have made more sense to fire Sessions early on? By the time Sessions was fired, many prosecutors and investigators had already been reassigned to other duties and the investigation was wrapping up.
You would make more sense if you said that Trump fired Sessions because he needed an involved AG (not a recused one) to respond to the report itself. That you can't apply simple logic to this event is just one example of your problem.

Does anyone here realize that Sessions could not be forced to recuse himself? The American Bar Association or the Supreme Court couldn't force him to recuse himself. He could have consulted with Trump about recusal, but that would have been extremely unethical to let Trump, the guy being investigated, decide who will be in-charge of the investigation. On the other hand, Barr has a history of ethically murky decisions. Barr could have asked Trump what Barr should do about investigating Trump. As far as we know, Barr is letting Trump make the big decisions about Trump. Sessions won't tolerate that kind of nonsense from Trump and that's why he was fired.
So that Signym won't forget: Comey was publicly fired by Trump on May 9, 2017. On May 17, 2017, Mueller was publicly announced by Sessions/Rosenstein as a Special Counsel. Those two events were connected because the Special Counsel was authorized to continue the investigation by Comey confirmed in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017. Trump angrily declared he did not want Sessions to let this happen. Sessions told Trump it was happening and Trump could blame himself for it. He should not have fired Comey.

(The actual reason for the investigation? Comey was publicly fired by Trump on May 9, 2017 for investigating "the whole fake Russia thing" said Trump. On May 17, 2017, Mueller was publicly announced by Sessions/Rosenstein as a Special Counsel to continue the investigation Trump believed he had stopped permanently. Trump was really mad at Sessions/Rosenstein for restarting that investigation. Trump said he was, many-many times. Mad at Mueller, too! But he couldn't fire Mueller.)
In the past Trump has gone in the opposite direction by insisting innocent people be executed. The Central Park 5 for example needed the death penalty according to Trump. Instead, they received $7.1 million each, which really upset Trump. He once again called for their execution. That one of them received $12.2 million drove Trump completely bonkers. In October 2016, he declared that the Central Park Five were guilty and stated that their convictions should never have been vacated.
