Actually saw a copy of Gladiator, but didn't pick it up.
I like the movie, but I'm starting out slow with movies I really like, or really want to see (Green Mile and Big Fish are on that list, and Big Fish was factory sealed, so that made that choice easier).
Maybe eventually I'll have a huge list, but I'm not entirely sure I want to commit to this yet, and I'm being pretty picky right now. I could have easily dropped $200 and cleared them out on half price Saturday if I wanted to. :)

I decided that I'm going to start buying DVD's of movies I like. Many years ago, I had a collection of around 25 or so that I gave to my brother since I was going completely digital with everything. He had upwards of around 700 of them. My mom and step-dad easily had over 1,000.
KODI has pretty much been shut down. I've got Netflix, but they've got shit for a selection. I wanted to watch Galaxy Quest and Idiocracy recently, but of all the online streaming services only two of them currently have those movies, and they're only available to rent for 48 hours above and beyond the normal subscription fees!
A few years ago, I could have gotten a lot of DVDs, but I didn't want them at the time. My bro had a flood and lost a lot of them, and used that as an excuse to get rid of the rest except for those he couldn't get online digital codes for legit copies. My parents got rid of most of theirs during and after the move. :(
Goodwill seems to be a great place to do it though. If I stop by during the week, I figure I'll only buy ones that I put really high up on the list at $2.00 if I see them. Those that are lower on my list I'll take my chances and buy on the Saturdays where everything is half price for a buck.

Good thing everybody followed your advice to get rid of movies they OWNED and switch to paying companies to trickle them down, parcelling out for your pay.
My favorite places were Half Price Books, pawn shops, used DVD/CD stores. Almost never found squat at Goodwill or Salvation Army. Pawn America had HUGE quantities, but never organized or alphabetized them.
I sometimes worked out a deal with used DVD stores: I would sort all DVDs into simple Alphabet, like all Cs together, all Fs together, in exchange for credit. I became the expert on exactly what they had in inventory, they would ask me if they had something. Therefore I got first dibs on everything I had never been able to find. Worked out awesome. Took several weekends, set my own hours, around the times they specified. Once organized that way, it was easy for them or anyone to maintain it.

Yeah... well. Like I said, I only had about 25 DVDs in my life. It wasn't a huge collection that I lost. I just lost out on getting any of the good ones that my parents and brother had for free.
I could always go back to downloading them off of torrents, but I know a few people who got caught doing that. It never bothered me much before, but now that they're watching our internet activity closer than ever state side and the EU is passing laws like Article 11 and 13 (or whatever numbers they're calling them these days), I figure why take the risk when I can buy a physical copy for a buck. Plus, I had hundreds of movies and TV shows that I downloaded years ago on a NAS unit that crashed and I lost all of them. If I have the DVDs, I can always make compressed digital copies on my own and have a physical backup.
The Goodwill by me always has a huge selection. Eveyrone is getting rid of their DVDs these days with BluRay and digital media being the new standard.

Anything I want to see I will get through my library then after watching decide if I want to buy it. I have a couple of other Russell Crowe movies such as "Robin Hood", and I think it is called "Broken City." I liked "Quick and the Dead" but not enough to buy it.
My collection of movies and tv series are some on DVD and some still on VHS.

I was at my old man's house, right around the time when Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink did that Pepsi commercial where they were all wearing gladiator gear, back around the time that the movie Gladiator was big.
There was a TV guide or something peeking out under a stack of other things on my Dad's kitchen table, and I saw nothing but an ass wearing gladiator gear, and I said, "nice ass". I pulled the other stuff away and it was Russel Crowe in his Gladiator garb.
I stand by my statement.
He was a gorgeous man. I remember seeing Virtuosity in the theater when I was maybe 13 and I remember thinking to myself that he was the best looking man that I had ever seen in my life.

Just a word of caution: DVDs do not keep indefinitely. We've had some DVDs become unplayable after 10 years or so, and these were stored properly and not mishandled or scratched. we do have a lot of pollution here, including ozone, so maybe our DVDs deteriorate faster here than eleswhere. But if you really want to keep those movies for the foreseeable future, you might want to copy them to a hard drive or something.
