Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Putting this above all others as my 'want to see ' category. Been looking forward and getting updates as best I can, primarily on the YouTubes channels. Great stuff, btw.
However, also been looking back at the 2014 movie. Minor things I picked up, from multiple viewings and some things don't make sense.
Early on, young Ford Brody is making a birthday sign for his dad. On Ford's bedroom wall, is a poster. It's a poster of 2 kaiju fighting. They look extremely similar to Godzilla and a MUTO. What's up w/ that ?
Oh, and Ford's mother, Elle, tells the elder Brody that Ford made a sign for him, but then he acts all surprised that she tells him it's his birthday, AFTER the discussion where she says she'll go pick up a cake on her way home from work.
After the brief skirmish between the flying Muto and Godzilla in Hawaii, we see the US navy 'tracking' Godzilla as he follows the MUTO. US carrier and other ships are literally right next to Godzilla as he swims. He's not bothering them, and all across the Pacific, they don't shoot him. And yet, the US military puts tanks on the Golden Gate bridge, which is loaded w/ civilians.. how is this even possible ? They've known where Godzilla was , all the way from Hawaii to S.F. tracking him , and yet the army acts all surprised and defensive, as he approaches the city ?
How did the female MUTO escape all detection until the folks at Monarch figure out there ' might 'be a problem in Vegas. And then voila ! There she is, 300 ft tall, having just popped out of the nuclear storage facility , which was in direct eye sight of Las Vegas, in broad day light. No hint of a problem before that though, huh ?
I hope they don't make these sort of faux pas in the upcoming movie. I guess we're expected to overlook such things in origin movies.

OK, I get it. Kaiju movies not for everyone. I don't like Transformers, so there's that. But this... this is next level stuff.

Just curious as to how we expect Godzilla to suruvive this massive Titan cage match, where he beats / is the last one standing - Ghidorah, but then somehow we're expected to believe Kong would have any chance ? Maybe they'll not actually ' fight ' each other this time ? Unless it's RIGHT after , and Godzilla isn't recovered, but that'd just be bad writing. Anyway …

I liked Transformers, but have not really followed this. You seem to have a lot invested, and I am unlikely to disagree with your guidance on this subject. Many others viewing this thread may be in the same boat.
This comes out 31 May.
Not sure of the point in your Spoiler bit. Could the primate be assumed able to outsmart lizards and whatever other things there are?

Godzilla and kaiju of its universe are Toho studios property. Toho loaned those rights to Legendary, which is making 4 movies...

And yes, Kong is a Universal creation, but w/ it's interjection into the kaiju verse, it essentially is Toho. I suppose it ' could' be a stand alone character, for future movies, if there are no signed deals and it doesn't tangle w/ Toho specific critters, but there's also the matter of Monarch, the scientific group that keeps track of the monsters. That as well belongs to Toho.
Some have speculated that KOTM is a set up for future kaiju, to be used by Legendary, if no further rights to Godzilla etc...are forthcoming.
Also, Toho plans it's own monster verse movies, aside from what's been put out by Legendary, so … take that into consideration as well.
Simple, huh?
Truth is, this could go several different ways.
I must note the title of the last movie. Where as 1962 was ' Kong vs Godzilla ', and Kong was the accepted winner by most , the 2020 title has the names flipped.
Does this indicate Godzilla wins in the rematch ?

I just couldn't get into the old ones when I was a kid. Dunno why. I loved the Nintendo game Godzilla, just didn't like the movies.
Then there was that horrible Matthew Broderick movie in the late 90's or early 2000's that probably turned a whole bunch of people off to it in America.
How was the new one from a few years back?
How does it compare to Cloverfield?

I saw Rodan on tv when I was a kid back in the 60's, and for me it has remained all these years as my favorite Japanese monster movie.

Godzilla 2014 was more in line w/ the original , though not as directly menacing to mankind.

Cloverfield was decent, but they by far and away over did the ' shaky ' crap. I know that was supposed to be the style, but I didn't care for it.
Legendary is the same studio for Cloverfield, Pacific Rim and Godzilla. Kinda thought we'd see a cross over , but it doesn't look like it now.

I actually really liked Cloverfield, and the shaky cam didn't bother me. Generally though, I agree with you and I don't like the style. I think it's far too overdone now, and I think there's something about getting older that makes it unpalatable to sit through. I was only in my mid to late 20's when I saw it.
Really, I don't like the cinematography for most action flicks these days. Transformers was horrible. The bits and pieces I saw of the last Die Hard movie from reviews I've watched were horrible. There's just so much crap happening all at once and such weird editing done that you can't even follow along with what is actually happening. Maybe actually caring about what is happening would make you try harder, but honestly, there was nothing offered in any of the Transformers movies I saw that made me care enough to bother trying.
A Godzilla and Cloverfield crossover would be cool someday. But you'd have to really build the universes first before that happened, I think. As big as Godzilla is, he's dwarfed by the Cloverfield monsters. I know there were historically instances where Godzilla and a few of the other monsters were actually protagonists against other monsters. It would have to end up being some kind of team effort of Godzilla monsters and mankind against the nebulous Cloverfield menace for it to make any sense. I think Godzilla alone would just get crushed.

I'd thought about repeating the hype I remember surrounding Cloverfield for it, but then I remembered that it wasn't the first time it was used. Firefly wouldn't be either. I'm not sure if the Blair Witch Project was, but it predates both of them.
